EXTENDED FIRST LOOK AT THE VAMPIRE LESTAT (2026 —) FT. SAM REID
“No soy pobre, soy sobrio, liviano de equipaje, vivo con lo justo para que las cosas no me roben la libertad.” — JOSÉ "PEPE" MUJICA (1935 — 2025)
REST IN PEACE, REST IN POWER, REST IN LOVE.
35 Years Without Cazuza: Brazil’s Eternal Poet Thirty-five years ago, on July 7th, 1990, singer, songwriter, actor, and poet Cazuza passed away on a Saturday morning in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 32, due to complications from the AIDS virus (which, at the time, was still poorly understood by the medical community and the general public). Cazuza was one of Brazil's most iconic artists. He made his mark with provocative, deeply emotional lyrics, a rebellious attitude in the face of societal norms, and a free-spirited soul. He was openly bisexual long before it was common, and famously had a relationship with another legendary Brazilian artist, Ney Matogrosso, who remained a close friend until Cazuza's final days. Even today, Ney still says he loved Cazuza and always will.
Cazuza contracted the HIV virus during the height of the global AIDS epidemic, and in 1989 (just one year before his death) he publicly revealed his diagnosis. That moment became a turning point in Brazil's fight against the virus, helping to break stigma and open up necessary conversations. After his passing, Cazuza's mother, Lucinha Araújo, founded the NGO Viva Cazuza, which provided support and care to people living with HIV/AIDS in Brazil — and helped save countless lives. Cazuza's legacy as the Eternal Poet lives on, honored with love and admiration by fans, artists, and Brazil's musical community.
