“We’re almost at the guild, c’mon,” Gray called, gesturing to the path leading to Fairy Tail.
“What’s wrong?” He questioned watching as the child, who had been happy seconds before, now had a bashful expression.
“I-I can’t get down,” they mumbled, crouching down and standing up in a repeating pattern as they tried to find the best angle to jump down from the wall.
“C’mere,” he sighed, though a small smile slipped as he raised his arms towards the child, watching as a grin slowly grew on their face.
“Yippee!” They cheered happily launching themselves into the Ice mage who easily caught them, placing them on his hip as he made his way to the guild.
"Hey remember what we talked about?" he inquired
"Umm, ice pops?" They tried, growing bashful at Grays sigh.
"I have a mission today, remember?"
"Awe, I come?"
"No, we talked about it remember, normally it would be okay but this one is a solo mission so I won't be able to keep my eyes on you all the time, it's best if you stay at the guild for this one"
"But you come back?"
"Obviously"
"Pinky Promise?" they askd hodin said finger up, grinning as Gray eventually wrapped his much larger one around it with a small smile now on his face.
"Pinky Promise" He called pushing the doors of the guild open.
Dokucha's eyes lit up, squirming their way out of their elder brother’s arm and making a dash towards a familiar bluenette, the moment quickly pushed to the back of their mind in their excitement.
“Juvia-neesan!” They hollered, gaining the attention of the young woman, turning around as her expression soon matched the child’s joyful ones.
“Hm? Oh! Dokucha-san!”
Just like everyone else, Dokucha had built immense bonds with everyone in the guild, especially since everyone had helped Gray raise and take care of them since their birth. Still, to everyone’s surprise, the child had formed the strongest connection to the water mage, second only to Gray, of course.
Dokucha still had a love that knew no bounds for everyone in the guild, but everyone in the guild could tell that Juvia held a special place in the child’s heart ever since the woman’s recruitment back when the war against Phantom Lord had come to a close.
Given Juvia’s admiration for Gray the bluenette had been exited at the child’s growing endearment to her, though with each passing day she thought of Dokucha less as an opportunity to grow closer to her beloved and more so as the little sibling she would do anything for regardless of their connection; of course the interactions with Gray that came from being with Dokucha would always be a plus in the love-struck mage
“Good morning, Dokucha-san! Juvia hopes you slept well!” She chirped, kneeling down to come face-to-face with the child.
“I did! I was sad at first cause I missed the guild, but then, then it was morning! And I got to come back!”
Before the mage could reply, a familiar voice cut in, stepping closer to the two.
“Juvia”
“Yes?! My darling?” Juvia exclaimed, pupils, turning to hearts as she shot forward, leaning closer to Gray.
“I’m going on a solo mission, I can’t bring Dokucha with me, was thinking maybe you could watch them,” he voiced, nervously scratching his cheek at the request, deciding to leave out the fact that the child had left it very clear she would not stay with anyone but Juvia while he was out on a mission.
In turn, Juvia’s eyes changed once again into gleaming stars at such a request.
‘Gray-sama has trusted Juvia to watch after Dokucha-san?! Juvia cannot let her darling down! This is practice for when we have our children’ she thought, face growing red and steam blowing out her ears at the vivid scene repeating on her head.
“Juvia-san will take the best care of Dokucha-san!” Juvia bowed, determination flowing through her veins at the new mission.
And so Dokucha found themselves skipping through the hallways of Fairy Hills, the two ready to settle after a long day at the guild.
“Juvia-neesan; look, look! It’s your room!” She called, bouncing as she pointed at the door.
“It is! Shall we go inside?” Juvia inquired, pulling out her keys and pushing them into the slot, glancing down at the excited child who bobbed their head up and down, prompting her to turn the key and push the door open.
Excitedly, Dokucha ran inside, giggling with happiness as they twirled around, taking in all the views in the room, and climbed up the bed for a better vantage point. Before long, however, they had dropped into the bed, taking in the soft feeling, their attention soon turning to the plushies lying nearby.
“You made Gray-nii!” They squealed, snatching one of the many plushies of the man lying on the bed.
“That’s so cool, Juvia-neesan!” They called rubbing their cheeks with a doll's own.
“Thank you! Juvia worked very hard on them. She has lots of them, so Dokucha-san can have some if they would like!” Juvia announced holding various hand-made items, tilting her head as she watched the child’s attention being called by something else
“Dokucha-san?”
“What's this?” They questioned holding a small white doll in their small hands, tilting it this way and that to further inspect it.
“Oh! They are called Teru-Teru Bozu. Juvia made a lot of them when she was a child.”
“Shine dolls?” They clarified
“Why?” They wondered, looking up at the mage
“Juvia wished for rain to stop following her so she could make friends,” she mumbled, sitting next to Dokucha as she took hold of one of the dolls, her thumbs caressing it as memories began filling her head.
“No way! I love the rain! I don’t want it to go away!” Dokucha cried, leaning towards Juvia, who had grown a surprised expression.
“Dokucha-san does?”
“Yeah! My plants get so happy when it rains, and they grow up so big after the rain.”
“Does Dokucha-san not rather have sunny days so that they can play outside?”
“Too hot when it’s sunny, and I don get to play in puddles if the sun is out! When it rains, I see a rainbow after! I love rainbows so much!” They gushed
Dokucha let out a small hmm, tapping her tiny fingers against her chin in thought, letting out a tony gasp as thought finally occurred to them.
“Juvia-neesan! Maybe if you teach me how to make them, we can hang them upside down so that Rain can come! I want to play in the rain with you , so can you teach me how to make them? Please?” They begged
“Juvia would be happy to!” She beamed, pulling materials from a nearby drawer and spreading them out on the sheets, carefully guiding the child step by step as they crafted the dolls.
“That should be the last one,” Juvia pipes up, lowering her arms that held Dokucha, who had been placing the remaining smiling doll into place,
“There are so many!” Dokucha marveled from Juvia’s arms, leaning her head on the woman’s shoulder and looking at the various dolls now hanging throughout the sills of Juvia’s apartment windows. Though their attention soon focused beyond the window and into the slowly increasing pitter-patter.
“It’s working! It’s working, Juvia-neesan!” They yelled, shaking, pointing, and the now steadily falling rain, jumping down from her arms to take a closer look at the wet spectacle they missed, the way Juvia watched them with a smile.
Although the dolls initially symbolized a darker, sadder part of her life, hearing Dokucha’s happy rambles as she created them slowly filled that grim resemblance with happy memories she would treasure for a very long time.
"Bye Bye Juvia-neesan" Dokucha yawned, waving a lazy hand towards the mage, tightly holding onto their brothers neck as he walked away from Fairy Hills.
"How was It?" Gray questioned glancing down at their sibling who cuddled closer to him.
"It was so fun..Juvia-neesan played on the rain with me" they mumbled tiredly.
"I can't wait for Juvia-neesan to become my official Big sister" they finished, closing their eyes and letting sleep consuming much to the older one's dismain.
"Idiot you can't just go to sleep after saying that" Gray hissed, though if anyone looked closely they could have spotted the flushed face on the ice-mage face as he walked away.
Gray and Lyon have angrily sung 'Let It Go' at each other. Gray sings the Demi Lovato version, and Lyon sings the Idina Menzel version. little do they know that Erza filmed the whole thing, and snickers at it constantly
