So umm... I need y'all help.
My best friend and I work at the same place, in different departments. We've been working here 2 years with no issues. Recently however, my best friend had been assigned to a new supervisor with.. different opinions than her prior supervisors. He has been getting on her about her voice and saying she sounds too 'snippy' or too 'sassy'. This is coming from nowhere, and they have put her on a 60 day probation. If there are any calls they get from her that they don't like, they will fire her.
My friend is black. She has a bit of an accent and a slightly deeper voice than others. Past managers, other friends, co-workers and I have always found it endearing, but I guess this guy has other opinions. He's reported her to her department manager and they are watching her every move. I can't even come by and say hi to her anymore.
This is not an isolated incident. There aren't very many black people working here (maybe 2 in management), but the ones that do are all looking over their shoulders, including myself. We're being accused of hanging up on customers, speaking in rude tones, call avoidance, you name it. Us people of color do not last long here, always constantly replaced. The colorism is getting blatant, just because we refuse to speak the colonizers language.
The company name is Great Call, manufacturer of Jitterbug senior phones and emergency devices. I'm asking you to boycott this company and raise awareness about what's happening here. This has gone on long enough.

What a wonderful day! There's so much to write about and little the time, I mean today we had a company meeting and it was wonderful to not only meet (and talk to current) executives but also understand where our business currently is heading and what the future may hold. Plus exciting new enhancements for users and support centers. Although I am under agreement to not disclose said enhancements and products, all I can say is that I am very excited about them and even considering a purchase myself just to promote them around my community. That said, things started off surprisingly well this week (work calls.) Usually we've been extremely busy with the holidays and new clients activating phones and medical alert devices for their parents and taking advantage of available promotions. Things are starting to cool down for a bit and with new employees taking over the customer service side of things, we've been pretty calm over here now. Work (for everyone in our call center, except those in other states) finished at 12:45pm and lasted until 4pm until we had to return (those that still needed to work after 4pm.) The meeting started off with new and old matters of business followed by a welcome by our new business owner (BestBuy) and meeting their CEO and receiving a small token of appreciation from the company. All in all, they were very welcoming and honestly I can only say good things about them. Towards the end of the meeting the company launched a raffle to rewards those who have donated for charity (Alzheimer's walk) and they made pre-drawn drawings before the official ones.
I had a pretty good chance of success since I bought more than 5 tickets (around 12 or so); I had 3 chances. Out of the 3, I was fortunate the get the best prize (imo) which was lunch with our leadership department of customer service (Director and VP of Customer service) and I couldn't be more excited. Honestly my goal is to someday build a successful career and I definitely see a future with this company, I am very thankful for that. When I arrived home (after going on a frantic spree trying to find my lost car keys and playing phone tag with my co-workers who had them), I arrived home expecting to relaxed for a bit. My fiancé has been locked out of the house for about 3 hours since the meeting started and waited patiently for my arrival. During that time he also had some news for me. Turns out my sister-in-law is pregnant and I am so happy for her! She's been wanting to have a child with her husband for a little over a year now and they've been going through the motions of life. I'm happy that God granted her the gift of birth and I know he/she will be a blessing in their lives. I think the timing was perfect as well, Ricky and I were planning to actually purchase a third condo and they went to see a studio near her husband's mother's home and ours. They fell in love and wanted to definitely move in there at least for a couple years until the baby is a little more grown up and they decide what else to do. The summary of this post is not only express a good day that occurring during work life but also how God is wonderful and provides success and happiness in our personal lives as well. Thank you heavenly father!
