Located near the site of the ancient #Library of #Alexandria, this modern version is an eleven-story, cylindrical-shaped building that houses more than eight million books. A re-imagining of Alexandria's ancient #GreatLibrary, this gorgeously designed cultural center contains a host of museums as well as one of the modern world's most ambitious libraries. Its architecture - a giant sun disk - presides over the waterfront Corniche, while inside, a huge reading room can hold eight million volumes. Below themain library, visitors can explore a range of beautifully curated exhibitions. The Manuscript Museum with its magnificent collection of ancient texts and scrolls and the Antiquities Museum with its Graeco-Roman antiquities and statuary found during underwater exploration in the harbor are the two prime attractions. But there are also rotating art exhibitions, a permanent Egyptian folk art collection, and a Science Museum and Planetarium that are aimed squarely at children. #Biblioteca de #Alejandria 🤓 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwub7T-A6vM4HOUpihL6Jl4-cW5PHZ4uASpjhk0/?igshid=12k925sl9wi2w

“You have ink in your blood, boy, and no help for it. Books will never be just a business to you.” Rachel Caine, Ink and Bone
Review Here
I've been so busy the past few days I didn't have the time to post this bench I saw at the library.📚📚 The past two weeks I've gone to the library at least once on my days off from work. I took out some cookbooks and I got the two other books in the #GreatLibrary series by Rachel Caine. Stumbled upon the first one and fell in love 📚📚 #fortworthlibrary #bookstagramer #bookaholic #bookstacks #lovereading #readingaddict #rachelcaine
New and improved!
Welcome to the new Rachel Caine tumblr! Sorry about that, the old one had some problems I couldn’t sort out. So I’m starting over, but that means it’ll be MORE AWESOME.
I’ll be posting more regularly here about THINGS. Mostly writing and books, true. But not always. But meanwhile, here, have a cool Great Library gif!
POETS HOUSE, in Manhattan, NY, was founded in 1985 by the late U.S. Poet Laureate, Stanley Kunitz, and brings world-renowned modern poets and their body of works to New Yorkers, as well as to visitors from all over the world.
“POETS HOUSE is a favorite place of mine to visit. It gives New Yorkers and visitors from all over the world access to renowned modern poets and their body of works, though an extensive library, readings and celebratory events. It is truly a unique place to spend time in. I encourage anyone who’s a fan of poetry to go and read (and even write) in the modern, comfortable library with its volumes of books, chapbooks, literary journals, including a multimedia archive. View prized memorabilia encased in glass, such as the manuscripts of of Emily Dickinson and others. And for kids, there’s a children’s room decked out with colorful furniture and a waist-high bookcase filled with books of poetry written for kids and by kids. There are Saturday readings and regularly scheduled classes attended by groups of school children with their teachers. Look up the Poets House calendar of events online at www.poetshouse.org and plan wonderful New York City days around the events. Become a member and you’ll be helping ensure that poetry — a truly noble form of the “written word” — lives and thrives in a world where, I believe, it is sorely needed.”
