Welcome to Naxos!

Naxos was the second island we toured while in the cyclades, and it is where we called “home” for the most time. 

The unfinished temple to Apollo sits high above the main chora and greets you, however imposing, as you enter the port via ferry.  Surrounded by waters in every hue of blue, the climb to this Portara was both easy and gorgeous. The buzz of the city dies down as you move up, and your ears adjust to the wind and water lapping up against the rocks licked by the Aegean for centuries, spilling its secrets under the piers and over the boards.

This last photo has earned the spot of my lock-screen, and the photo that will replace it will have to be incredibly special to do so.  The view is from the Portara, the doorway slightly behind me, peering at the main part of the port and city. 

I am still incredulous.  How can seawater be both crystal clear yet contain shades of blue the poets have sought to describe for millennia? HOW?!

(Is there a #hashtag for photos that are beautiful but still do not do a view justice?  All my Greek pictures should be tagged that, if so...)
