it's just that i'm of the belief the show, crazy ex girlfriend and all of its music, is what rebecca spent that year doing that she was going to showcase at that open mic night. and that her choice is of herself, her art, and her music is within the clear and obvious narrative choice and suggestion of greg.
she chose herself, and when she did that she could finally choose greg. who chose HIMSELF when he went to emory and then could finally choose her because he understood what it meant to choose himself. their stories parallel each other because we're supposed to understand... they are the healthy choice.
it drives me nuts when people take the ending as proof the show wasn't about romance (even though post suicide they do make a big point of "romantic love is a part of rebecca, even though its not all of rebecca.") when in reality the show was about trauma and healing and about how you have to choose your own healing because you can have the best partner, get everything you want, but you'll still suffer until you're in it for you, too. which is like... very much what greg represents in the narrative?
