Oh dear me, I’ve suddenly become dapper!
Hoo boy. I’m gonna take a note from your sonata and break this into chunks, for organisation’s sake.
Because I’m an adult.
Anyway, I wanna start off talking about the Mun. Michael here is a rad as heck guy. Seriously, the amount of detail and thought you put into your muses is amazing, and the care that goes into all of your writing is fantastic. You’ve got some serious skill, there. You always leave me with something to think about when we talk, and you’ve got an eye for word choice and for picking out what makes a person tick. The differences between even the minute details of how your muses act, the different voices in the writing, all of it… You’ve a gift, my friend. On top of that, you’re just an all-around swell guy. You’ve been nothing but welcoming to me and my disaster of a muse, you’re loads of fun to talk to, and just. Yeah, you’re awesome. It’s been aces getting to know you, and I absolutely enjoy every thread, every ask, and every IM we’ve had. … I’d say hats off to you, but, I’ve just gotten this one, and I rather like it.
And the muses. I will say that I’d never heard of Bultar before interacting with you, and my life was a lesser experience for it. She’s an absolute queen, and I think she deserves way more recognition than she’s given. I’m still in the process of getting to know her, but I look forwards to all of it. And Fox. Poor Fox. I never really found myself disliking him - I mean, I spent the entire Ahsoka-on-the-run arc mad at Palpatine and Tarkin, and Barriss, and I haven’t gotten to the Fives thing yet, but I do know what happened. And, you know what? I still blame Palps. Fox doesn’t deserve the flack he gets.
Tl;dr: A+ mun, A+ muses, 10/10 would reccomend

... correct. The kind of earlier, flippant response insinuates subterfuge and espionage are expected of elected officials. It is not, and those courses of action are prohibited by Republic Law.
“I’d also just like to think better of those who’ve been elected to run the Republic, but perhaps that’s naiveite speaking. ... Regardless, I wish you and your men the best in getting to the bottom of all of this.”

Too often, people made the erroneous statement that Coruscant was perfectly safe. Perhaps the war didn’t reach this far, most days, but that didn’t mean that there was nothing to worry about.
Of course, it was mostly the top-surface citizens who thought that. To be more specific, those who took up residence in the nicer districts. Braig envied them their naivety. All the same, he knew he’d do anything to let them keep that blissful illusion up.
And that was how he found himself in this situation. (It was, to be fair, why he found himself in most undesirable situations.)
The scent of pollution rose and fell again around him. Scent of sweat and fear seeped in between. Flash off to the side DUCK as a bolt screams over head and b r e a t h e. To the front, a few feet ahead of him, a group of assailants, and, to the right–
More shots. Plasma flares in his hand- Deflect, roll back. Force shoots out. A cry. They fly back with a crash. Crates burst under them. More bolts - blue, from friendlies behind. None of them expected their days to go this way.
(”What do you mean, terrorists?” He’d asked, brow furrowed. “And, not to be disrespectful, but do we really have the time to deal with that sort of thing?”)
The sound of footsteps thundered behind. A familiar voice multiplied and made strange by the different inflections and patterns and tones barked and received orders in kind. Profanity from ahead; the battle was going in his favour.
(”We may be caught up in the war, young padawan, but we mustn’t forget a Jedi’s real purpose: We keep the balance in the Force, and we protect those who need us.”
“I understand, master, it’s just–”)
Filtered light did barely enough to show the playing field. A tug of the Force - Turn, deflect the incoming shot. Vault over the boxes. No time to wait. Sweep to the side. Force follows his move. The door ahead flew off its hinges SLAMMED into the far wall and showed the way through. Hit the ground in a roll, stand to parry the blade coming down (where had they gotten a spark-lance? Perhaps the black market was becoming more of a problem than he knew). Energy screeched against energy as Braig grit his teeth. Muscles protested against the strain as he crouched in his stance. Muscle coiled and weight shifted as the blades drew apart. Clashed. Another - turn and parry, thank the Force he had two of these things. Shouts from behind: the men were gaining. Good. He could hold his own, but only a fool would turn down backup in a situation like this.
(”… Is it really our jurisdiction?”)
He torqued suddenly. Both aggressors fell back under the weight of the Force. Two quick shots from behind - blue rings, stuns only - dispatched them. He gave a quick nod over his shoulder, not bothering to see who it was, exactly, who’d done it. Attention needed to be given to the path ahead.
(How far the galaxy must have fallen for that to be a concern for them.)
Or, rather, the lack thereof. A barricade melted over the staircase, furniture thrown down like society’s dregs. A quick look told him it’d be too much to jump without the Force, ceilings too low for jet packs (did the guard regularly carry jet packs? Did they have any now? Not worth the chance). Didn’t have time to work around that. Lives were in danger. Just jump.
(Who were they allowed to help?)
The wind flew by his ears as feet barely kissed the ground. He could hear muffled noises behind him - more fighting? Perhaps. The Force willed him forwards. Fear - thick and sharp, lashing and bristling around him - and anger - hot and gnashing its teeth right by his ears. This was bad. He grit his teeth, rounded the corner. Over the banister at his side, he could see a flash of red. The men’s armour.
(”You’ll be working with the Guard. We’ve already received approval on that, so you should be fine.”)
Reassuring, to know they were there, especially with the silence that had fallen over the ramshackle apartment. Braig’s sabers were the only light. It was oddly still… He could feel the drops of sweat running down the back of his neck. His breath was the loudest sound around him. Below, the men’s armour clacked as they secured the perimeter, and a deeper rattle as a few of the men started clearing the stairs.
“Everything okay up there, kid?” One of the men - Whip - called. Braig hesitated.
“Right now? Yes,” he said, and a spike in the Force snapped his head to one side. So that’s where they were. “But be ready. It’s about to get bad.”
(”Okay. What’s the mission, then?”)
He crept to the door on the far left - No, not that one. Right beside it, boiling fear and frothing anger. He narrowed his eyes, probed the Force carefully… Only two presences here. That was… Good, and bad. Good, because it would be easier to deal with only one assailant (and he was quite sure only one of them would pose any threat). Bad, because if they were alone, they would be more skittish, more likely to act unpredictably. Braig swallowed, then looked over his shoulder. Some of the men were carefully picking their way over the debris. Braig motioned for quiet, waved them over. … Though they may not get along on a personal level, he had to admit, he felt much better knowing Commander Fox was here. Yes, Jedi did get nervous, and yes, they did sometimes wish they had their master by their side. But, the war had called Obi-Wan away, so Braig decided he could settle for a squad of fully-trained soldiers. He’d make due.
He nodded to the door, held up two fingers, mouthed the words ‘two people’ just to make sure the message came loud and clear. Skipper (another soldier, younger than most of the others) nodded, put his fingers against his helmet as he relayed the information down the line. Braig turned his eyes back to the door.
(”You’ve met Senator Kopti, yes?”)
His stance lowered, and he tightened his grip on his sabers. More of the men had made it up, though a few stayed below to keep the entrance secure. He could see, from the corner of his eye, a countdown being signalled. Five, four, three, two…
The door flew open with a crash. Shots chased after it; Sabers flew to block. A scream in the Force (and out of it) as a metal canister bounced off of the walls–
(”His daughter is being held hostage.”)
Swearing from some of the men as they leaped back. Heat and light - the Force cradling against the blast - ringing ears mixed with shouts as a figure darted through the smoke. Braig ran after them, boots sounding at his side as the men did the same. Muffled shrieks guided him just as well as the Force did. The poor girl was terrified.
(”That’s horrible! Don’t worry, master, I’ll make sure she gets home safely.”)
A Jedi must always keep their word. A Jedi must protect all life, as it is all sacred in the eyes of the Force. And, even barring all that… There was no way he could leave a child so scared. Broken doors blurred past, corners came both too fast and not quickly enough as he propelled himself forwards. The presence ahead slammed to a halt. Braig did the same.
“Stop right there!” The voice that rang out was high pitched and raspy; not at all like the holorecordings Braig had seen. A voice synthesizer, then? no time to worry about that - what was more important was what the hooded figure was holding. In one hand, a silver device, vaguely tube-shaped, with a button on one end that was being compressed by a taloned thumb. The other end was pressed against the soft grey skin of a young girl’s neck. Her eyes met Braig’s, and the Force’s reek of fear was echoed a thousand fold.
“We’ve stopped,” Braig said, though kept his grip on his sabers. The men beside him were tense. Ready to move. Footsteps from behind heralded more on the way. “We’ve stopped, and we’re here to listen. Why don’t you just let her go, and we can talk, and you can tell us what you want?”
“Would that I could, Jedi!” Some of the words slurred, though there didn’t seem to be any intoxication about the stranger; movements too precise, their signature too crisp. “But I’m afraid you wouldn’t like me very much if I did!”
Not very fond of you, as is. Braig didn’t voice that aloud.
“How do you mean?” He said. A familiar presence stepped up behind.
“You see this here?” The stranger nodded to the device in their hand - or, at least, it looked as though they did. The hood made it hard to tell.
“I see it,” Braig said, keeping his eyes on the figure’s shoulders. Keep them talking.
“It’s a trigger for the explosives I’ve planted beneath the city.” They sounded triumphant; A pause. There was no surprise from the men. They’d known about the explosives before. This seemed to annoy the stranger. They tightened their grip on the girl. She squeaked. The faintest of clicks hinted at a trigger finger tightening. Not enough to fire, but enough.
“For your explosives?” Braig said, shifting his weight. The girl whimpered. Tiko, her name was.
“Yes!” The figure crowed. “As long as both ends are compressed, the bombs stay sleeping. But, as soon as one end gets released, BOOM!” The figure cackled, leaning back towards a grimy window.
“You don’t have to do this.” Braig said. The Force nipped the air off to the side; Ah, good. Fox seemed to have the same idea he did. “We’re already listening. Just put her down, and we’ll have a shot at working this out.” He nodded, slightly, hoping Fox would understand. The nod in return suggested that he did.
“I don’t need to work anything out with you! All it takes is one little movement and thousands, no, millions of lives are gone! You have no choice but to listen to me! I am a god to you miserable–”
The screech of the blaster was in tune with the victorious shriek of the Force as the device and girl were yanked forwards. The figure gasped as they were briefly illuminated with blue light, then pitched backwards through the thin transparisteel behind them. Some men ran forwards to watch the descent into the nothingness. Braig would have joined them, if he were not so focused on keeping the trigger compressed.
“You four,” Fox’s voice sounded off to the side. “Finish securing the hallway. Sergeant, call for a search crew. I want that one found as soon as possible. Get an update on the bomb squads, too.” A chorus of ‘yessir’s greeted him as the troops saluted and dispersed.
“And you.” Braig didn’t look up - nor even realize he was being addressed - until Fox pulled a roll of adhesive from his belt and set about binding the switches of the trigger down flat. Braig let out a breath as he released the Force’s hold on the device. “Take care of the kid.”
“Right.” Braig nodded, crouching to where Tiko had sunken to the floor.
(”She’ll be home before you know it.”)
“Oh, and, Commander? … Nice shot, by the way.”

Michael: Okay so let me tell you all a little something about Michael? I love how he can develop characters from pretty much nothing and make them fully fleshed-out and 3D while still having them be recognisable as what canon gave us?? (And I know it only said one but I also love the rhythm/pacing/flow/whatevs of his writing. A++++ stuff)
And as for Fox? I wish we got more of him in canon, so I’m stealing this from your portrayal: I love how gruff and no-nonsense he is on the job, and then he’s a bit of a marshmallow with his wife?? 10/10 best stern soft fox
@guarded-battalion liked this!

Michael is one top guy, let me tell you. We’ve talked a bit OOC, and he’s been nothing but wonderful and kind and an all-around swell fellow to chat with! Plus, he thinks my terrible jokes are funny, which is always a plus, and also something of a miracle.
I don’t know much about Master Swan, since my knowledge of the EU comes in spurts, but I do know about Fox, from what I’ve seen on the show. And Michael really knows Fox! Inside and out, he just gets Fox on a deeply emotional level, which is impressive, considering the main emotion the good Commander shows tends to be summed up with the phrase ‘on a scale of one to even, I can’t’. The poor man deserves a nice vacation, if you wanna know my honest opinion.
Michael is a hell of a guy in the best way possible, and I look forward to interacting with him much more in the future!
