Some supposedly say that good kalku or machi can force a nguruvilu to move away from a particular location in a public ritual by diving in, fishing out the creature, and then threatening it with a knife to stop its attacks before placing it back in the water.

The nguruvilu is a creature found in the folklore of Chile's Mapuche region. It looks like a fox with a long, snake-like body and sharp claws. Its name translates as "fox snake."

The nguruvilu live in rivers, and can cause whirlpools to kill people who attempt to cross their waters. The only safe way to cross a river inhabited by a nguruvilu is by boat. A skilled sorcerer can rid a body of water of a nguruvilu.

Today's Theme is Nguruvilu! I've also seen it called "Guirivilo" and according to wikipedia it has a whole host of other names, but no matter the name, it is a Fox-Snake Monster in Chile and South-West Argentina from the culture/religion of the Mapuche people there. I tried to make the hands like lizard claws, but unfortunately they didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped;;; Oh well, aside from that, I do really like how this turned out, and it was a lot of fun to work on!!
