Gundelach - Duck Hunting

Musician from Norway.

Kai aka Gundelach says: “The song is about being in a relationship, about being depressed and having someone helping you through it. I was listening to “I’m on fire” by Bruce Springsteen on repeat all summer and wanted to channel the feeling of that song with a song of my own. I sat down with my Juno 60 and had it ready in no time. Ultimately it’s hopeful but still sad. I named the demo “Duck Hunting” because it symbolized nostalgia to me and it just stuck. I used to play that game on my Nintendo, with the plastic gun and everything.”

Norwegian artist and producer Gundelach envelopes us in sheer synths, tender strings, and halcyon vocals on Duck Hunting, a dreamy melancholic yet blissfully chiffon indietronica beauty. It’s almost like Bon Iver and Ásgeir crossed with LANY. The bittersweet single is an ethereal montage consisting of twangy indie rock and synth pellucid retro pop. Gundelach explains that the song is about being in a relationship and having that someone help you through depression. Much like how the name “Duck Hunting” reminded me of my younger days with my old Nintendo console, this song also symbolizes nostalgia for Gundelach. Duck Hunting is available, here.
