Discover Your Story: Free Writing and Vignettes.
Sometimes Ideas don't come to us with ease. Sometimes it takes a walk in the park, a trip to your favorite ice cream store, or a pen with comfortable cushioning. And most of the time, it just takes a seat at your desk, pen and paper in hand, and a mind empty, or full of ideas.
The term used to be a bit annoying to me, as I am a person of planning and organizing everything. I wanted to work in chronological order, writing one chapter and scene at a time, in the order it happened.
But sometimes we need a less cookie-cutter-ness, and more randomness.
When you feel as though you are running low on ideas, sit at your desk, and just start writing everything that comes to mind. It may help you come up with ideas for the future, or revise scenes that happened in the past.
Free writing vignettes were fun for me because I got to chose a scene from any time or place in the story, and just create it! Write your vignettes in the format you would write the actual story, and when this scene actually comes up, you may decide to keep what you have written, add some, or just change it up a bit!
Also remember to keep your writing pieces organized so that you can find them whenever you need them. Create folders for your writing, organized by chapter, section, or whatever else fits your story.
