Draco sat close, knee pressing Harry’s.

“When a house is healthy, it draws magic from its master, but not violently. It doesn’t cause harm. It’s … symbiotic. You care for the house, the house cares for you.” He frowned at the wall. “Why did you reject him?”

He is wrong.

Draco stared out the window, thoughtful. Reached for Harry’s wrist again. His thumb pressed Harry’s fluttering pulse.

“In the forest. My mother said—did you actually die?”

Harry swallowed. Nodded. Draco’s hand squeezed tight.

“Oh,” Draco breathed.

“But I came back.”

Came back wrong.

Harry didn’t disagree. Draco didn’t let go.
