Welcome to part 4 of lessons by Vinay Varanasi
In today's lesson we shall learn about Rama Nama Mahima. Why is Rama's name considered to be more powerful that Rama himself. It is the name that has given so many devotees Ashraya and helped in crossing the Bhava Saagara. It is the same name that is uttered in the ears of the dead at the home of Vishwanatha.
To understand it's greatness we need to decode the name 'Rama'. It is made by 2 aksharas. Ra and Ma.
As we all know there are two famous mantras believed to be the most powerful and liberating mantras- the Ashatakshari and Panchakshari mantra.
The Ashatakshari mantra refers to 'Om namo Narayanaya'. Now in this mantra the Akshara 'Ra' is considered as Jeeva akshara or the Akshara that gives this mantra life. Without 'Ra' the mantra becomes 'om namo na-ayanaya' which will translate to having no meaning, no goal etc, rendering the mantra meaningless. So 'Ra' is extremely important.
Now coming to Panchakshari mantra which is 'Om namah Shivaya'. Here 'Ma' is considered as the Jeeva Akshara. Because if you take out the 'Ma' it becomes 'Om nah Shivaya' which means there is no good or auspiciousness. So 'Ma' is extremely important in this mantra.
Now bring together both these Jeeva Aksharas that hold the entirety of meaning and auspiciousness in the world together. It becomes 'Rama'.
Rama is the centre of life force for the world. It is made of the life of both Ashatakshari and Panchakshari, thus making it the most powerful name and mantra, if you do Sadana on that name. The only name in the world whose mere utterance will give you liberation and guidance. Just the way it provided guidance and power to Hanuman. And the way it soothed and liberated Sita's heart in the midst of demons in Lanka. That Sita who is Prakriti herself. Who is Jaganamata, jnana murti and mantra swaroopini- her parna is Rama. It was not Rama in person who helped them or soothed them but his Namam.

Jai Shree Rama!
