I think Desmond's hair is like a mental health indicator for the guy and that's exactly how I portray him in my writing. Descole's hair is always shown as being loose, down, and flowing whenever it's seen in the games/movie. It's probably also a little wild and frazzled and he doesn't seem worried about it at all.

Desmond's hair in Azran Legacy is a complete 180° turn from Descole's. It's described as extremely tight curls. His sprite just has stiff ball-like structures. He mentions needing to wash it at one point, he seems hurt when it's insulted, and he describes it as being very fashionable. He's clearly highly sensitive about it, which seems peculiar since Descole has never appeared to care. I think Desmond's hair here is like a metaphor for how extremely hard he's working to keep himself together in the face of everything. It reminds me of my OCD and hand washing. He's facing off with Targent, his brother (who doesn't even REMEMBER HIM despite Des having loved him so much that he gave up his own entire IDENTITY and FUTURE for him) is living with him, his brother's pseudo son whose mother he abducted and whose father he blackmailed is living with him, etc etc. Can you imagine the level of stress and dread he's experiencing during the entirety of AL? Tl;dr If Level 5 weren't cowards, we'd have scenes of his curls coming undone or starting to frazzle into Descole's hairstyle as his metaphorical mask slips in certain scenes. During the Descole reveal, the bread buns would poof out into Descole's hair. Like Don Paolo's hair splitting in half.
