Interestingly, the Muppets' "Mah-na Mah-na" song actually predates the Muppet show itself, as it was originally one of the numbers Jim Henson performed on the Ed Sullivan Show, back when the Muppets were an occasional variety act.
However, the "Mah-na Mah-na" song was not original to the Muppets, as it was originally composed for an Italian movie about lurid sex in Sweden, entitled "Sweden: Heaven or Hell?" The documentary focused on lesbianism, swingers clubs, and porn theaters, for the more conservative Italian audience. It was originally written on the fly to show some girls enjoying a key part of life in Sweden, the sauna, which the composer, Italian jazz great Pietro Umiliani, improvised with just three notes.
