"The Quartet of Woah! is one of the newcomers of 2012 and also one of the biggest surprises. Born in 2010, The Quartet of Woah! is a band formed by members of other Portuguese bands such as LunaSeaSane, Melange, Nicorette, Blasted Mechanism, Zorg and Philharmonic Weed. They took their musical influences to build a unique genre of rock with heavy influence from the 70’s and 80’s. “Ultrabomb” is a concept album inspired by “La Ultrabomba”, a children’s book written by the Spanish authors Mário Lodi and I.Sedazzari in 1974. It is about political and social criticism held in a fictional universe. This book ended up being banned in most European countries as well as Argentina. The record tells us the story of Master Lever, a man who was driven by his thirst of power and greed. This is a true musical journey. Diversity is the word here. It is such as sweet mix of stoner rock riffs, psychedelic jams, keyboards, a little pinch of Queen here and there, progressive and jazzy segments… There is a hell of a lot going on but in fact each song flows perfectly into the next one. It is not really fair to point out or highlight any of the thirteen songs that are part of this album. It only makes sense when you listen to it as a whole and I do recommend you to do so. Over and over again. It is addicting. As I said before, “Ultrabomb” is one of the biggest surprises of 2012 and one of the bands to keep an eye on in the future. It is a pleasure to listen to records like this one."

We're playing one of our last shows on December 15th. Huge Christmas party with our friends Keebo, Cut, and Arrows of Love. It's £5, and it's a rinse out till 4am. Gonna be absolutely hilarious fun...

Fan of the Week: Bill Goodman

Dear Goliathonians,

As we are currently elbow deep in our Kickstarter campaign asking you for money, we would like to take time to show some public appreciation to some of our friends and fans who have followed and supported us through the years. 

We begin with Chicago area blogger Bill Goodman. Bill was one of the first to review our debut album, Without Further Ado. We'll let Bill tell you what got him hooked and why two years after first hearing Goliathon he still looks forward to hearing new material and has chosen to continue to support us as we create our new album!

I can't pinpoint the exact time I discovered Goliathon but it's been close to 2 years now. Jake (one of The Soda Shop's founders) sent me 3 links to different band's Myspace pages that sounded good. I couldn't tell you who the other 2 bands are as Goliathon really stood out.

I remember at the time I was still fairly new to the whole "stoner rock" scene. Maybe it was the progressiveness of those demos but I was hooked. Of course there was no audio for download/purchase so I sent a message to the band. It turns out drummer Matt Fields answered the call. The band was still in the process of recording "Without Further Ado." At that time I had volunteered to help out Reg at Heavy Planet (www.heavyplanet.net) as he was getting a bit stressed out with to many bands, not enough time to featured them all. I decided to feature Goliathon on his now world famous "New Band To Burn One To" feature which was cross posted on The Soda Shop and the old stonerrock.com website.

Looking back the wait from first contact until "Without Further Ado" seemed like forever. When it was finally released I was out of town for work but I ordered it with hopes it would be waiting for me when I got home. It wasn't but came a day or so later. It was worth every minute of waiting. I reviewed it right away (something that only happens when I really like an album that I've been waiting for). I ripped the album and put it on my iPhone so that I have it with me all the time. Along with a few other albums (not including anything by Clutch), "Without Further Ado" has stayed on the phone since and hasn't come off. 

Like all bands I like, I always look forward to the next thing they're working on. Goliathon is no exception. I do regret not being to come to see Goliathon the last few times they've been in town because word is they put on a hell of a show. Online reviews and videos seem to back up that claim. I have faith in Goliathon that the follow up to "Without Further Ado" will further the band's sound and bring them up another level. I believe in the band and that's why I decided to back the Kickstarter campaign.
