I’m crying in a good way, I can’t believe this is happening
After a decade away, The Raconteurs returned with one of the best albums of the year. Here’s "Now That You're Gone" #96 #Bestof2019
It’s a bluesy rock song with some great harmonies and great guitar riffs. Brendan Benson takes the lead vocals on this one with Jack White providing lead guitar and backup vocals and the band as a whole sounding tight as ever.
From their excellent album “Help Us Stranger,” I’d also recommend “Help Me Stranger,” and “Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness).”
Song Review: The Raconteurs: “Shine the Light on Me” (Live on “Fallon”)
The Raconteurs channel the Little River Band and the Beatles on “Shine the Light on Me.”
A recent live performance of the balladic track from the group’s Help Us Stranger LP was released as a web exclusive from “the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” It finds Jack White cribbing piano lines from “Lady” and Brendan Benson lifting licks from “I Want to Tell You.”
Despite the obvious influences, the Raconteurs do have something original to say as White sings on the bridge:
Only God can know why the story’s told/over and over again/but we don’t need to know/why the flowers grow/let's just be happy they can
It’s good advice. And “Shine the Light on Me” is a good, albeit quite derivative, number.
