Thinking about the connections between Hephaestus and Dionysus...the trust between them in myth. How their domains cover physical and mental illness/disability, respectively: Hephaestus as the Crippled God and Dionysus as the Mad God.

A space for Hellenic Polytheistic worshipping and honoring the Greek God, Hephaestus -- the God of fire, volcanoes, crafts, blacksmiths, metalworking, carpentry, sculpture, and artisans.

I realized I haven’t properly shown off my current chair in a while, and I have an appointment in two months to make big changes/possibly get a new chair, so I figured it’s overdue!
Jack (legal name: jackass) is my ultralight custom manual chair, specifically a tilite aero z. Jackass is named such because that’s the term for a male donkey, a nod to Lord Hephaestus, but also because this chair is stubborn and hard to use (hence why I need major changes), BUT still gets me where I need to go.
This chair annoys the shit out of me, and has many flaws and issues with functionality, and is just not meeting my needs, but I’ve also out dozens of hours of work into it, and it carries me on a daily basis.
I am deeply excited for my next chair though, which will also be flame themed, BUT next time I have big ideas and plans for it, so stay tuned!

In my experience, Lord Hephaestus is very kind, and almost a bit rugged on the edges. I often am reminded by Him to rest when I’m crafting or repairing my wheelchair, His reminders are genuine concern and care, but also firm in that.
To me, He’s very comforting, almost paternal. He’s offered me guidance and wisdom while I’m working on my chair or leatherworking, and He is very gentle when I’m struggling.
That being said, Deities present Themselves in different ways to each person They interact with, and your experience with Him may be completely different than mine, that’s normal and okay! I feel like it’s always worth at least reaching out and seeing how it goes, and building a relationship from there.
I created this space to honor Lord Hephaestus, where we can share our practices, learn, and build community. Open to all, not just devotees of Hephaestus!

My skin is a lattice of molted, splotchy, deep browns and purples and reds and pinks on my back. I developed several spinal abnormalities in the past year or so, and now spend 99% of my time bedridden laying on a hot pad to try to manage the pain. Fire stains come with a risk of cancers and other health issues. The skin all over my lower back will likely be like this forever.
The same markings are seen in blacksmiths from long term heat exposure.
When I worry about the health issues that could be caused by my scarred skin, I remind myself that Lord Hephaestus carries these same scars. I am not alone.
I choose to take it as a mark of His most gracious fire that lessens my pain. An honor to share in the image of His famed craftsmanship.
