1. Were you named after anyone? Not my first name, but the family story goes that my Mom and Dad asked my older siblings for help with a middle name and I ended up with Marie as in Marie Osmond, because my oldest sister was obsessed with Donny Osmond. Grain of salt ... I don’t really believe it. 

2. When was the last time you cried? Saw the Barbie movie last Sunday and cried during the ending. I also cry every damn time Aragorn says, “Ride out with me” in The Two Towers

3. Do you have kids? Two beautiful children, both on the queer spectrum. I’m a fandom grandma so they’re both out of college and doing well on their own. 

4. Do you use sarcasm? No. Never. Nope. 

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? I don’t know if there’s one particular thing. I’m kind of a holistic, “huh, they look like an athele” or “blonde cute probably popular girl” kind of first blush response. Comes from being a professor and seeing new students at the beginning of the semester. I love getting to know them and realizing that first blush view is sooooo often wrong. 

6. What’s your eye colour? dark brown

7. Scary movies or happy endings? I don’t care for jump scares or bloody hack-n-slashes, but I do like a good thriller/creature feature. But give me a happy ending any day. Doesn’t have to be “and they lived happily ever after;” I loved the ending of the Barbie movie and I can handle a character dying if it makes sense to the plot and is done as the completion of a long, fascinating story arc. 

8. Any special talents? I sing, and I have been told I have the directional sense of a “fucking homing pigeon.” I’m also very, very good at finding cheap textbooks instead of paying full price. 

9. Where were you born? Knoxville, Tennessee

10. What are your hobbies? Reading, watching movies, writing, traveling, finding the best sushi in any town/city. Jigsaw puzzles. Cooking. I’ve got a lot. 

11. Have any pets? One grumpy old man kitty who’s 18 years old. We just lost his brother last year (he was 19). We spoil him rotten. He has his own personal  heating pad covered with his favorite blankets. 

12. What sports do/have you played? None. I was reading when God announced sport talent day and didn’t bother to go. 

13. How tall are you? 5 foot 4 inches

14. Favorite subject at school?  English, band, choir

15. Dream job? When I started working, it was to be a full-time college English professor which I’ve been doing the last XX years. I have to say it’s not my dream job anymore with all the changes happening in higher education, bullshit laws being passed in some states, and spectacularly terrible decisions being made by the administration. Now my dream job is to retire early and write fanfiction AUs all day.

This might be a good Fluffy Friday prompt: That staircase in the loft is so not kid-safe. I bet Rick goes on a remodeling spree when Kate gets pregnant, and he puts in a slide as an alternate route to the stairs. (No, I'm not sure how going could be made safer, I just keep imagining the slide. XD)

This specific site sends them from DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESSES. Takes forever to realize they’re spawning new ones to get past the spam filter. Like, motherfucker!!! The last one was the same email but with “premium” added. That was the one where they said, “OH you want to unsubscribe from the premium too?”

I feel you. Academic sites have no shame.

At the NCTE, when you register, they take your email and data as part of the conference info, right? Then you get this nifty scannable badge that gets you all the free books and swag in the exhibit hall. Well, guess what? Every place that scanned it got ALL your data. Most just say they’re scanning it to prove you’re an NCTE official attendee for access, but a few admitted they send you mailing lists.  I refused after a while; the big bosses at the tables were like “You can’t have those free exam copies!” while the others working there were slipping them in my bag so they didn’t have to pack them back up and take them home. Not a fan of the NCTE national conference, TBH. Too expensive and way too focused on elementary and middle school curriculum. It was like a mean girls convention, no joke.
