In 1939, the Hawaiian Pineapple Company (later to become Dole) commissioned Georgia O’Keeffe to produce images for an magazine ad campaign. At the time, Hawaii was still a remote, little known US territory. The landscapes, and expectedly, the exotic flowers so inspired O’Keeffe, she stayed for 9 weeks. NY Botanical Gardens exhibits the paintings and the ads they appeared in, as well as some other beautiful paintings done during her Hawaiian sojourn. || Heliconia, Crab’s Claw Ginger || 1939, private collection || Pineapple Bud || 1939, Private collection || Hibisicus with Plumeria || 1939, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum || Waterfall, No 3, ‘Īao Valley, Maui || 1939, Honolulu Museum of Art #GeorgiaOKeeffe #Okeeffe #NYBG #NewYorkBotanicalGarden #NYBotanicalGarden #Hawaii #VisionsOfHawaii #Heliconia #PineappleBud #Hibisicus #ArtHistory #HistoryOfArt #ModernArt #AmericanArtist #WomanArtist #art_encounters (at The New York Botanical Garden)
