Why Hicola is trash

Before everyone starts off I’m not just just saying this because Nicphie is my OTP, I genuinely think they’re a trash ship. Second, I’m not hating on people that ship Nicola x Hort, I’m just stating my opinion and giving reasons for it.

Nicola started liking Hort by reading about him in a book. Obviously the fact that she fell in love with a romanticized version of a person is bad enough, but I’m going to be lookin at the version of Hort that she fell in love with. In the book that she read, Hort was depicted as a weasel. And yes it’s cute that she fell for the underdog but let’s not forget why he was depicted as this. He absolutely refused to take no for an answer when it came to Sophie. And when it still didn’t go his way he reacted poorly. Remember when he said “I’ve kissed you and killed you in my head more times than you deserve” and everyone hopped on it as a romantic line?!??? Not romantic! It’s really toxic! Nicola obviously romanticized this as an act of devotion to an undeserving person which seems extremely toxic and like something that should be tagged r/notlikeothergirls on reddit. I mean I love you Nicola but come on!

Then when they actually met Hort couldn’t give a crap. He was obviously flattered that someone had a crush on him but he didn’t seem to like her back. He still followed after Sophie even in the scene he and Nicola got together, the SCENE. This realistically won’t be changing any time soon. Think about it, Nicola was in the middle of asking him for help when they were chained together when Hort ran after Sophie, dragging Nicola after him and leading to her getting injured, he then proceeded to try to make this better by saying uh... oh yeah we’ll.... GO ON A DATE TO A NICE RESTAURANT!!1! and for some reason this works???

Nicola... honey... no...

And then in ACOT Hort is still in love with Sophie. Even though he has a girlfriend. He kept repeating the line “someday my weasel will come”, which would have been fine if it wasn’t an obviously romantic line. It’s a play on the quote “someday my prince will come” which has appeared in some of the older Disney princess movies (I think it was Snow White, Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella, not sure which). Like bitch??? You’re meant to be over her. It all seems to be very unhealthy to put these two characters together 👀

Then there’s the very stupid “‘rivalry’” between Sophie and Nicola. Sophie never seemed to have any interest in Hort but suddenly she’s dropping bombs like “well Hort’s already chosen his true love now hasn’t he?” NO! He hasn’t, that’s the point! Was there really any reason for this? Nope. It’s like Soman thinks it’s it’s necessary for her to have beef 🥩 with everyone (I mean who hasn’t she had beef with? Sader maybe?). I mean they’re both very headstrong so I get why they’d clash, but over this? Why do these two girls have to argue over a boy when that’s what Sophie spent the last trilogy doing that, especially seeing as she’s meant to have matured by now and is supposed to be her own true love. I honestly think this Hort thing has really hurt her character development (though not as much as Ryan Rhian has).

Last point, I promise

Hort is better off on his own and Nicola and Sophie should get together. There, I said it.

Hort spent all of TSY obsessing over Sophie and he needs time to grow up and mature before diving into another relationship since he’s obviously not over Sophie yet. Nicola is essentially a rebound. It’s my personal head canon that Hort is asexual though canon doesn’t seem to agree with me AT ALL

Sophie and Nicola are perfect together. Sophie is wild and Nicola can be the one to reign her in if she wants to and we all know Sophie needs help controlling her anger

*cough* the school years *cough*

And Nicola also needs to let loose and be more carefree. They’d really compliment each other and bring out the best of the other.

Enemies to lovers trope at its best

To summarize: Hicola is trash, I ended up talking a lot about Hophie so let’s just say that that’s also trash and give Hort a frog AND his pyjamas back 🐸✌🏻

Hort: lets sophie ride on his shoulders in wolf form, has some good ass dialogue with her, gets a kiss on the cheek, “aye aye captain”

Hort: is genuinely upset when he sees agatha cry

Hort: bonds with and eventually goes on a date with Nicola, who likes him for more than his looks and actually shares his interests/sense of humor

Hort: is about to flee the four point but freezes when he hears Ravan scream for help

Hort: “it’ll be strange not being together” “this quest felt just like school only I actually liked you all this time”

Ok usually I don't ship poly ships in a serious, "I want this to be canon" way but...I like Hophie, I'm warming up to Hicola, and Sophie and Nicola have Gay Potential 🤔
