The arms depict the art of jærstoler, or the art of weaving twigs together witch is popular in the municipality. It represents strength and solidarity. There are three sets of Saint Andrew's Crosses to represent the three municipalitys that were merged to create this one (Hjemeland, Fister, and Årdal)
