Last week, written in graffiti in a bathroom on campus, was a death threat to the Muslim students of Virginia Tech. In response, the Muslim Student Association hosted a series of events throughout the week: they gave out cookies and donuts, made a short video and last night they hosted a rally entitled, “We Stand Together.”
The event consisted of prayers and speakers including a few of Tech’s Muslim students and Virginia Tech President Timothy D. Sands. Overall, the message can be summed up in a few short statements:
"It's not how far we've come, it's how far we have to go,” -Devon Lee
“The only way to fight ignorance is with understanding,” -VTMSA President Obaid Rehman.
"We come here today, not in mourning ...but as an opportunity.... To work together for change,” -Lee
“When we experience ignorance, we respond with peace. Stand together in solidarity against hate. Respond with positivity,” -Rehman
