Wow. Cas asked about John and Dean answered. Sam prompted Dean to tell Cas a story about John and he did. That is a pretty monumental change. Dean opens up to Cas in a way he doesn't to anyone. Even to Sam. Because he can rely on Cas and ask him things he can't ask Sam. Like he did in the restaurant when he admitted (by strong implication) that the Mark is affecting him.
