More flowers from the Indian Rope Hoya (hoya carnosa compacta) also hindu rope plant, the porcelain flower or wax plant it’s a cultivar of hoya carnosa. Found in Queensland, and some parts of Asia. Hoya is usually an epiphyte so it needs good drainage and a slightly moist environment. It does not need a big pot and several of my Hoyas have been in the same pots for the last 20 years. The compacta is in quite a small pot and has shade on the pot and full sun on the leaves. Pretty easy to propagate by cutting or layering. Mauna Loa Hoya Compacta (the reverse version of the one pictured here) was the first plant that introduced live mealybug to my plant parenting journey. On the day before I was about to leave for a 2-week trip, I spotted these white cottony monsters and learned about all the various methods to root them out. I’ll forever remember me and my partner staying up late to spot treat all the neighboring Hoyas with alcohol dips, give them bubble bath of neem oil, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap (thanks @all.my.wet.planties for the tips), and convert them all to cocohusk immediately after. Like many other types of hoyas, this species is epiphytic in its natural habitat, which means it’s actually an air plant, and its thick, crinkly leaves are succulent.
