@jeffkoons is now the highest-selling living artist after his "Rabbit" sculpture sells for $91.1 million. 🐰💰⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The stainless steel bunny sculpture he created in 1986, which was inspired by a child’s inflatable toy, was one of three limited edition pieces (with one additional version as an artist’s proof). According to Christie’s auction house, the sold piece was the last example left in private hands.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ That record-smashing title was previously held by British painter David Hockney who sold “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” for $90 million last November. Before that, however, Koons’ was at the top spot with “Ballon Dog (Orange),” which sold for $58.4 million back in 2013.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 📷: Getty #hsnews https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxh_YnUDGb_/?igshid=dk11wus3p2kv
🖤🖤@russwest44 RIP Nipsey Hussle #nipsey “That wasn’t for me, that was for Nipsey. 20 plus 20 plus 20, they know what means” 😢🙏🏽 Russell Westbrook put up an ultra-rare double triple-double last night - 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 21 assists in 37 minutes in OKC’s win against the LA Lakers. In a post-game interview, he dedicated his hard work to the late Nipsey Hussle - 20+20+20 is 60 & Nipsey was a member of the Rollin 60s gang. 📷: @oscar_castillo #hsnews https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvy-RjoB_Jv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=198m6hxbmqkhi
This artist bought a $730,000 Banksy work & revealed plans to paint over it. American artist Ron English claims he's doing this in protest. “My idea for this painting is to whitewash it for my good pal Banksy, I only wish I could’ve spent more money for it," he says. “We’re tired of people stealing our stuff off the streets and re-selling it so I’m just going to buy everything I can get my hands on and whitewash it.” #hsnews 📷: Getty Rp @highsnobiety https://www.instagram.com/p/BqQPaLcHVUW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fy9k44uonyps
Found an interesting article about a music sample copyright law case with Jay and apparently its either pay a licensing fee for sample clearing or get sued. But the argument is more about tiny pieces and Jay makes a good point when he argues that "black letter law that words and short phrases are simply not protectable under the Copyright Act".

For years we've written about the ridiculous state of copyright law around music samples. As you may or may not know, some of hip hop's early success stories were based on tremendous use of sampling, which most people assumed to be...
