Valeria, I want to know all your thoughts on the invisible life of Addie LaRue! 💖💖💖💖
It feels like an ode to art. I love how Schwab incorporated different mediums, whether it be Addie’s face blurred out on film, her drawn in a sketchbook or her melodies ending up in popular songs. When she first started teasiing it I worried the story would feel too repetitive; she meets someone, they forget her, she meets someone, they forget her but the concept felt explored to me. The art was a big part of that. Bringing historical figures into the story was a fun decision in general, mentioning Voltaire in his prime and so on. Addie visiting museums and viewing the pieces she influences was a great idea, those passages felt melancholic and whimsical all at once.
Henry is definitely another highlight. Their differences brought up really interesting discussions. He’s righteous, and it adds a layer to Addie’s beahviour. Was her stealing justified? Was there no other way or did she simply feel too comfortable living the life she created to even question it?
All the commentary on death is something I’m going to be thinking about for a While.
I see how the ending may be seen as cheesy, but I’m a sucker for the sort of fourth wall breaking of “this book exist in-universe”. Think it’s really fun that the promo for the book was I remember Addie, and that she’s the author in-book. Because we remember her, and so to the characters who’ve read it.
My personal favorite part of it was the question of when you stop being human and turn into something else (this might be because I just finished Leviathan Wakes and the idea of posthumanity in that but it is an interesting conversation nonetheless)

I've been trying to gain enough brain power to decide on a film to watch and now it's super late, but I'm not sleepy at all, as usual. I'm just here doing nothing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i feel that So Hard tbh, it’s unfair how difficult making decisions is
3, 6, 13, 22, 27. 😊
I just wanna start of by saying I love your url a l o t lol
Also apologies that this is so long I have a lot of opinions on music
3. A song outside of your usual genre
I usually listen to a wide variety of songs from all sorts of genres, but I’d have to say that Hand Crushed By a Mallet by 100 gecs is probably the most out there
6. Your current “on repeat song”
I’m notoriously awful about listening to songs on repeat but currently at this moment i think it’s Smoke Signals by Cavetown & Tessa Violet
13. A reboot of a song/songs you already loved
Taylor Swifts Haunted acoustic version gives me CHILLS every single time
(Bonus bc I really wanna answer this one) 21. A song from a local artist
Check out Makeout by Faze Wave and Get Out by Hensley. My favorite local artists.
22. A song you related to in the past and present, but for a different reason
HEAVEN by Troye Sivan. In my early teens I grappled a lot with my religion and sexuality and that song really helped me come to terms and to the conclusion “if I’m changing a part of me, maybe I don’t want heaven” and I’ve come to terms with myself and that part of me pretty recently so being able to recognize that is really helpful.
And not to over share, but in the more recent past, I was super lonely at the top of quarantine and I felt like I was losing touch with my friends because of the distance that quarantine was putting between us (or in the case of internet friends, that my depression felt like was between us) so Comfort Crowd by Conan Gray really gave me a little peace of mind. And now that I’m starting to do better and feeling more at peace in relationships, it’s taken on a whole new meaning of having a support squad who you can rely on to be there for you when you need them and you can be there for them when they need you.
27. An instrumental song
Lover’s Desire from the Hadestown concept album by Anaïs Mitchell. It’s her orchestration of an Afghan folk song and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
