The words were stuck in his throat, words forming into a lump that was leaving him breathless. He swore he would do it this time. That he'd walk away. His friends were right, they had been right for a while now. Eric and Zoe couldn't keep this up, the push and pull. You're a breath of fresh air, you're suffocating me. It was too much to bear, and no matter how many sleepless nights he spent trying to find a solution, he never could. He had convinced himself that they could live in this limbo forever, never figuring it out. But, every day that passed - he couldn't forget. Couldn't ignore what was said that night. It was the most honest she'd been with him, Eric knew that. It was cruel to hold on to someone who hurt every day they spent with you.

Still, Eric also knew that he would quickly change his mind if given the chance. He wasn't determined enough, his heart still begged him to try...just one more time. But, he couldn't keep doing this to her, couldn't keep hurting her just to keep her close. Eric's head hung low when he heard her voice, the voice that could make him do anything. He didn't dare look at her, one glance and it was over. "Zoe..please," his voice barely above a whisper. Eric wasn't sure what he was pleading for. Did he really want to go or was he just doing what he should? Maybe part of him was hoping for this, for her to ask him to stay, even if it was wrong. "Don't do this..I can't." He shook his head, as if that prevented him from listening to her. "I have to let go, and if I don't go tonight..I..we can't. Let me go." It was something he shouldn't have said, but he had to find a way. A way for them to break away. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
