"People you knew, they might always look the same on the surface - a few grey hairs or a thickening around the middle - but you could never tell what was going on behind their eyes."

READ-A-THON
I’ve had a pretty good reading week so far (finished Graham Norton’s Holding in about 2 days after taking way too long to slog through My Cousin Rachel) so I thought I’d try to keep the momentum going by joining in on @books-and-cookies 24-hour Readathon (which started 12 hours ago for me, sorry I’m late with my goals!).
I don’t want to be too ambitious but I would like to try to finish my current read, The Black Book by Ian Rankin, I’m almost half-way through and it’s picking up the pace now!
For a random extra I’d like to read 10 myths between Lady Gregory’s Complete Irish Mythology and Robert Graves’ The Greek Myths (I’m going through them in order atm so I won’t just pick the shortest!).
I also have to fit in housework (ugh!) and training; I’m hoping to get at least 4km (if not 8) to continue to break-in my hiking boots for next month’s activities.
But first! Fuel! (organic Irish Porridge, fresh, home-grown blueberries, chia seeds, a drop of milk, and chocolate chips)
...Damn, it’s raining. Guess I’ll read for a bit and hope it passes.
Current page tally: 24 (after the pub last night)
The Read-a-thon runs until 11:59pm 30 July. Come Join in and use #read4day
The Fun Lovin' Crime Writers
Book #2. Quite Ugly One Morning by Christopher Brookmyre.
Scottish Noir. To be read in a Scottish accent and with that pragmatic, apathetic, empathetic attitude to life so beloved by the downtrodden and hungover.
Chris Brookmyre must be of a similar age to me as his references to hanging about the QM Students Union bar certainly resonate.
Better than Rebus, Trainspotting or any of Val McDermaid’s disturbing stories. Bizarrely, Brookmyre, McDermaid and Rankin play in a band together - The Fun Lovin' Crime Writers.
On the beat with Bookbike London and #IanRankin This is a book to order - Joe wanted Ian Rankin, Joe got Ian Rankin. He plays a game to see how quickly he can raise his hostel fees before his feet freeze. Because of his complicated health if that happens he needs two hours before he can stumble home. A book shields him from the elements, rain, wind, winds, snow and cruelty. This year we are reaching breaking point with the national homeless situation. #bookbikelondon #bookbiker #thewanderinglondoner #homelessness #humansoflondon #homelessness #bookonabike #freebooks #booktherapy #bookcycle #cycleselfie #cyclistslife #cyclediary #bicycling #bicyclist #cycliste #bookreaders #booknerd #bookmares #readmore #readersareattractive #readersleaders #readbbooks #homelessoutreach #homelesspeople #roughsleepers #homelesslife #homelessentrepreneur #bookmagic #bookpost This year we are reaching breaking point with the national homeless situation. Ian Rankin is the Author of choice for lots of #homeless friends and I’ve had to source out extra copies. One rough sleeper said the exploits of Inspector John Rebus solving grisly crimes help him escape his life for a few short hours Rangers Football Club fan Jim gets the latest. He knows I’m nuts about Celtic Football Club and we get on like bread and butter. The summer presents altogether different challenges for the project. I need more water and less food. The good old book remains constant though, 365 days a year.
