I try not to look at the summary too much because I don’t want spoilers but I saw “reassigned” and “making out” and my heart literally dropped.
“You’ve had three weeks to get the heat out of it.” - I love this writing choice of yours like obv she’s absolutely pissed as we get little flashbacks of it but I really loved how you chose to make this discussion with her dad like toe-to-toe, like she’s been through this shit and she knows how this thing goes.
Carter and Steve, I loved this as an opportunity to hear how Steve is going. The draft texts was also ingenius and heartbreaking. I love how descriptive you are like I can’t explain it but you just delve into the details so well where it adds amazing richness and rawness to the story and characters.
Both of them make the other abandon all their calculations and plans like they compartmentalise everything but the other has the power to undo it all. I’ve loved seeing each other slowly “unravel” and show their real selves to each other and I’m so excited to see them both feel actually seen and loved and heard and understood as they’re both in roles that require them to have a facade up most of the time.
They know each other so implicitly and it’s fascinating to read what they do say vs their actions vs inner monologue. I was having a hard time figuring out how Steve and reader felt post Barcelona and I think that’s indicative of how they felt too. I naturally (and terribly) wanted definitive answers but actually, it was messy and both of these calculated people couldn’t figure it out in themselves and they were flipping it over in their minds bc they’re chronic thinkers and two sides of the same coin (or at least that’s how I’m interpreting it?)
