To see such a smile on that face of her, despite emerald hues soiled with a reddening pool around them as tears trickled down her cheeks like a small stream running dry in the midst of summer. Little did I know that her supposed spouse was with her, behind my smiling mask was a face, an expression of worry and of anger. She had told me about him before--

Then it hit me, no literally. Something indeed, hit me;  one of the town boys threw a stone and sent me flying off the ball I was balancing and walking around on, with a thud, I collapsed onto the cobblestone, red- ruby red liquid dripped from my plaster white mask. The minute I laid there a crumbled mess only to push myself up and do a little hand spring before I showed and performed a little trick of having paper flowers bloom from the cracks and edges of my mask and of course plucked one out and handed it to her. She of course, took it with a smile and a laugh, tucked the false flower behind her ear.

These were mere memories as I fell to the ground below, the screams of shocked men and women as the cries of children muted as I slowly descended from the great heights of the tightrope. With a bone shattering thud, I laid there... Wanting to get up to make her laugh again, but alas... I couldn't. I could feel the heavy air against my face for once.. Where was my mask??

No matter, I was numb and cold as warmth wrapped around my broken frame and lifted me up... Yet I could feel the coldness of tears drip onto my cheek. "It's okay.. It's okay..." I can hear her muffled voice, cracked and shaky as she held onto me dearly. For once, our eyes actually meet, this time I wasn't hiding behind a mask.  Her tears continued to fall as I forced a weak smile that would eventually break into a frown... And finally a cry. It's not okay, It's not okay... My final act, and she's in tears.
