What are your thoughts on Insidious (2010)? If you've seen it?
Okay it's been forEVer since I saw it, probably since 2010, so be nice if I get some of the details wrong. ;)
I liked a lot of it! The characters are fun, especially the ghost hunters, and I really liked mixing up the "haunted house" trope so it's the family that's haunted, and it has some really nice atmosphere.
I don't think it quite stuck the landing though, and the iconic shot of the demon behind Patrick Wilson always makes me laugh more than it scares me. Not a GREAT movie, but a really good one. I really should go back and watch the rest of the franchise.
INSIDIOUS (2010) + REWATCH
An underwhelming horror movie that relies heavily on jumpscares and musical stings for its frights. What can I say? It’s just not for me. Sure it has a lot of good elements to it, spooky characters, good pacing, great actors, but this film just falls short of my standards. Above all else, it was boring. Nothing really memorable happened and that is why I think I have to stick with my guns and keep this at a 2 star rating.

Halloween Film Frightstival Day 23: Insidious (2010)
Day whatever of watching movies I’ve avoided because I’m a scaredy cat but now I wanna be scared
What is it with horror movies and beautiful houses? I wanna live in a beautiful house, preferably not haunted though
Aw the mom and the kid have matching jammies that’s cute
Why? Is there a drawing of Jigsaw? On the chalkboard in the classroom? I know it’s just a cute little reference for the crew and viewers, but it’d be funny if the whole haunting was an elaborate psychological trap from Jigsaw
God kids are so fucking creepy wouldn’t you just drop kick the ghost in the fucking face
I shouldn’t have watched this while home alone I’m such a little scaredy cat and even when I can see the jumpscares coming they still scare me
Okay yeah that one’s scary, but why does it just end like that? Well I mean it’s to get you to watch the sequel, but it’s unsatisfying when they do all that work to stop the demons and then you think they did but they actually just didn’t? Anyway the whole thing felt very reminiscent of Poltergeist with a kid trapped in another place and having to be rescued and a medium and the ghosts ending up in the real world, it was just scarier than Poltergeist
My biggest problem watching scary movies is that I get over being scared after it’s over but then later when it’s all dark out I start thinking about how it’s awesome that I wasn’t scared and then I think about the scary stuff and get scared again, so I’ll probably be scared later but whatever
Anyway, it was good I guess, certainly not my favorite but that’s because I’m still scared

It's an obvious detail but I love how in Insidious the Dead are damned to wander the Further in Darkness and only the living have a light to navigate through.
Like it's initially build to guide the living safely out again. And how their light, their soul, takes on the form of a lantern automatically? I wonder if that could differ from person to person. Like for some people it's a lantern, a flashlight or a candle.
