Val slumped against a wall in the gymnasium, slowly sliding to the ground as exhaustion made it nearly impossible to remain standing anymore. It wasn't that collecting the chairs had been that physically tiring, but the whole situation was proving especially draining for her. She was in the middle of a natural disaster, an actual emergency, and her cochlear implant had run out of battery, making it near impossible to hear. Normally, she wouldn't mind walking around not hearing for a while as it gave her brain a chance to take a bit of a break. Trying to interpret the vibrations her implant sent through her brain took a lot more focus and energy than one might think. But in this situation, where she already felt so off kilter, so unsure of what might be going on, to not be able to hear announcements made on the loud speaker, or a warning shouted in her direction, had Val constantly on edge. She felt like she was at a disadvantage and in a emergency like this, everyone needed every single advantage they could get.

Leaning her head back against the cold wall behind her, her eyelids begged to close to allow just a few minutes of rest. But Val was terrified of not being able to see if an announcement was being made or if people began to move somewhere else, knowing if she didn't see it happen, she wouldn't hear it and would likely be left behind. So she sat there, resting while she could, but refusing to let herself sleep as the night wore on.

Cam had been waiting to hear from emergency services about the transmitter radio and if they'd been able to make contact with anyone outside of the school now for forty-five minutes. With cell service being so spotty, he and Genesis had had a hard time reaching Genesis' mother to make sure she and Juliana were safe. Cam knew the chances of them being able to use the radio to communicate with individuals was slim to none, but he was hoping to get some sort of update from the rest of the town, at least. Folding his arms over his chest, he glanced over at the man standing beside him who'd been waiting just as long as him. "You got loved ones out there, too?" he asked.

That’s okay, hon. Just come spend some time with me after class, alright? We’ll figure out the best thing to work with. Ain’t no use stressin’ your little head about it either, you’ll just work yourself up and get all foggy headed.

One of the good things, he supposed, about not much having changed in the small town since he'd gone to jail, was how easy it made it for him to track down the people he wanted to. Carlos hadn't told many people that he was being released, his brother was probably the only one who knew ahead of time. And after a few days of being 'out,' Carlos was finally starting to feel ready to see people again. One of the people at the top of that list was Mason. So after asking a few questions and finding out the man still lived in his apartment just a few blocks away from Juan's, Carlos headed that way. He knocked a few times at the door before stuffing his hands into his pockets against the January cold. He wasn't quite sure what his reception would be like, but hopefully it'd be a little less heavy than the other reunions he'd been having.

He started staying back after composition class when his professor suggested that he use the available instruments to “express himself” and open himself up to the class more, thinking that if Kingston was able to put all his thoughts and, well “angst”, into music, he would feel more liberated and interact in class more. Or, at least his professor would get a better understanding of him. Well, his professor does not understand Kingston any better—truthfully, that is a problem Kingston has to deal with as well—but, Kingston does now have the opportunity to use the available instruments. He sticks with the violin, cello, and base, as that is what he is familiar with, but he sometimes lets his hands splay on the edge of the grand piano, just for a few seconds.

When he returns back to his dorm, what he expects to see is his unmade bed on one side of the room, his coffee stained and paper covered desk at the right corner of the room, his sketch book in front of his wooden dresser, and the left side of the room be completely empty, which is what it has been for the past few weeks he’s been at Astor. What he is met with, however, when he opens the door, the strap to his violin case strung over his shoulder, folder in hand, is another person, and the left side of his room occupied by various items that were never there before.

“…excuse me?” He says, voice low and quiet. “Who are you?”

PM: That’s alright, dove. Do you want to meet up after classes are done so we can discuss your options? You can bring your selections with you and we can figure it out together.
