You mentioned the incest and the rape bits, that's not something I see many people actually delve into. Is he sexist? Is he the type of man that takes what he wants with little regard to others? Do you think his daughters would be safe from the uglier sides of their father, or, that he actually ever thinks about the atrocities he has committed? the lives he may have destroyed? Do you think that people who praise his positives only reinforces him to not think he did bad things? That hes good?
dark themes apply. caution please:
IS HE SEXIST?Yes, as far as the interpretation in the myth goes. He chooses which woman he will respect and like your any other typical sexist, he makes fun of most men and compares them to women when pertaining to their flaws and weaknesses. He will respect you when he wants to, but if you’re so ordinary that you don’t even have the slightest bit of impact in his life, you’re gonna get disrespect and that’s it.
IS HE THE TYPE OF MAN THAT TAKES WHAT HE WANTS WITH LITTLE REGARD TO OTHERS?Now, this has always been scenario dependent. Because every time he goes down this stupid route, he’s always risking something. There are many scenarios wherein he could have done this, such as killing Ailill and his children when it was tasked of him, but he let Ailill live for the reason that he wasn’t the enemy during that time. The main point concern of this is, if you are his enemy, you will lose all right to everything you own including yourself. But if you aren’t? You’re there. You exist in his eyes somehow.
DO YOU THINK HIS DAUGHTERS WOULD BE SAFE FROM THE UGLIER SIDES OF THEIR FATHER?Violence was pretty common in their era due to frequent battles and wars. His daughters were exposed in this kind of life early and so was his only son. In terms of darker sides, he wouldn’t sexually engage with his own children. Cousins? Distant cousins? Aunts? He’s done that without a doubt in mind and more than once. And again, incest was common during their time and so it wasn’t truly frowned upon. Even the King of Ulster himself had an incestuous relationship with his own mother.
DOES HE ACTUALLY EVER THINK ABOUT THE ATROCITIES HE HAS COMMITTED? THE LIVES HE MAY HAVE DESTROYED?And this is where the moral ambiguity appears. Because of the difference in his culture and to whichever modern world he’s summoned in, it would take a lot of time for him to realize which of the things he did in the past are considered morally fucked up and which are just something he could brush aside as always. He doesn’t ponder about things very long, so even if he knew he did corrupted things, he’d always comfort himself with the thought that someone else did worse or that is how things worked during his era. Wars happened. People died, including himself. Which is really just a fucking excuse to not think far too deeply.
DO YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE WHO PRAISE HIS POSITIVES ONLY REINFORCES HIM TO NOT THINK HE DID BAD THINGS? THAT HES GOOD?People might think of him as the “cool bro” that Fate tries to continuously reinforce in every franchise he’s in but even he himself doesn’t believe that regardless of how much Bazett idolized him for his deeds. We got a clear view of him in Fate/Hollow Ataraxia that talks about him failing the women in his life and being unable to keep some of the promises he made so when Fate said that he didn’t regret anything in his life, I don’t buy that big fat lie because he wouldn’t waste a lot of time thinking about Scathach, Aoife, Emer, The Morrigan and Bazett. Maybe the part that tells he’s devoid of regrets is about the people he had killed for various of reasons. Even then, Ferdiad’s and Connla’s were something he fucking cried about. Does he think he’s a good person? No. Does he think he’s a bad person? No. HE THINKS HE’S A MOTHERFUCKING MESS.
