People across the country are running 2.23 miles in honor of Ahmaud Arbery, who was shot and killed while jogging #IRunWithMaud

The only reason that Travis and Gregory McMichael claim that they thought Ahmaud Arbery looked “suspicious” is because he was black. They stalked him like prey and then they murdered him in cold blood. And they made a video of the murder for the same reason hunters keep photos of themselves killing animals.
Also, this was not the first time that Gregory McMichael had encountered Mr. Arbery. (x)
In honor of Ahmaud Arbery.
I ran this today. Slow and steady. My feet hurt, but I’m grateful for being safe during this run.
Round 1 today was 2.23 miles for Ahmaud Arbery
Followed by a mile walk with Ralphy
Both in the rain
Reaaallll gross day
I figured I’d go for another walk this evening but it was raining harder and I’ve been really killing the miles the past week so I’m capping today at 3.23 and getting back out there for some longer miles tomorrow!

This is not a political post. This is a humanity post.
It is always triggering to hear another person dying or severely hurt due to a senseless act. How many more People of Color have to keep enduring this? Hate crimes never seem to desist. Land of the free really has its’ limits. I will preface by saying, I have not watched the video of Ahmaud Arbery. I don’t need to. The pattern of young Black men losing their lives for doing REGULAR SH*T is beyond me, beyond all of us. As much as we take time to mourn in the moment, it is certainly not enough. We need justice, but we also need understanding. I do not have all the answers, but I do know we can start by being made aware and educated on different groups of people – their culture and community. Exposure and an open-heart is what we need. How is that too much to ask of people? We are f*ckin humans. We are not perfect and we are not superior to any other (wo)man on this Earth. You know what we do have? PRIVILEGE. Please understand our privilege is not all the same. I have privilege in certain arenas and you have privilege in certain arenas. We must do something with that to evoke change. Only the ones in power can really make a difference, right? Start looking at yourself and make small changes that can inspire others to do the same.
If Ahmaud Arbery were your father, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, would YOU treat this situation differently? That’s an obvious answer. We need to start treating these events as personal as we can. That is the only way we can effectively see a decrease. It is highly disappointing that America is as lazy as it is. We, as a nation can recite the Pledge of Allegiance and even have a Spanish version to cater to those minorities in America, but cannot treat them as equals?! What kind of B.S… The issues are never-ending, we know, but I digress…
I know PLENTY of avid runners that are People of Color and of those POC’s? Black men that are leading within those groups. I couldn’t imagine hearing from a friend or even on the news that they have been attacked for doing what they routinely do. It’s sickening… I don’t always make a post about these issues because sometimes my brain can’t compute what is wrong with our nation. We are supposed to be the UNITED States. We are almost always treated the opposite. It is unfortunate that we cannot come together to see past our differences and also, to realize that our differences are what we can learn to appreciate and learn from one another. We are more alike than we are different has always been my motto in every occasion and opportunity. We love and bleed the same. How can you take actions on a man for doing something as simple as going on a run?! He went RUNNING… A form of exercise, self-care, and an isolated act. Not bothering any damn body!!!
Tomorrow, May 8, 2020 – supporters are running 2.23 miles on Ahmaud Arbery’s birthday. I will be joining (probably sometime in the AM since it’s been getting hella hot in LA) and hope you have some time in your day to do the same. If you cannot join due to a physical limitations, I hope that you are there in spirit <3
