also thohh’s past storyline was set in the 90′s. olivia was born in the 50′s. homosexuality was still a very taboo subject in the time when olivia was growing up, it was considered a crime and a disease. we obviously know better now. and even though olivia was never of that mindset, she’s seen friends go through both acceptance and rejection when their sexualities have come to light. she didn’t want theo, when she was eventually ready, to feel afraid of telling her who she is. so any opportunity liv had to talk to theo and impress on her that she could talk to olivia about anything and everything, she took it. she did the same with all of the kids, because it’s important to olivia that they talk about what they’re feeling and thinking and what they want, but with theo especially, she tried to be as open as she possibly could.
