i’m sad this show never got the attention it deserved tbh it was so good

they don’t force heterosexuality on legendary queer icon christopher marlowe aka the gay atheist spy (played by jamie campbell bower AKA jace from the tmi movie which wasted all his potential tbh) like so many movies have done the queer rep in this is A+ 

theres an iambic pentameter rap battle

the poc rep should have been better but it’s not like they pretend poc didn’t exist back then just there should have been more poc in the main cast

however saying that there is a woman of colour who holds a high position of power from episode 6(?) onward

strong female character who literally tells will to his face that he doesn’t know what not being free is like because he’s a man and manipulates the way society treats women to her own advantage (the book stealing scene is ICONIC)

deals a lot with PTSD especially in marlowe and richard (post ep8) and shakespeare 

also deals with the persecution of catholics and religious prejudice (heavy torture scenes so be warned)

deals with religion thinking queer folk are damned 

ITS PUNK ROCK SHAKESPEARE DO YOU NEED ANYMORE REASONS TO WATCH IT??
