With just seven games to go, Leeds inch ever closer to their return to the Premier League after dismantling Fulham 3-0 at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon. The Whites saw rivals West Brom slip to a 1-0 defeat to Brentford the night before, and they took advantage of that slip-up with the minimum of fuss. Patrick Bamford, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison all notched in a comfortable victory, and the latter in particular drew some high praise from the club’s fans for a virtuoso performance. Aside from his goal and assist, Harrison also provided two key passes, created one big chance and finished with a 7.9 match rating as per Sofascore – only goalkeeper Illan Meslier finished with a higher score (8.1). And after seeing his display, Leeds fans flocked to Twitter to share their reactions. Great game from Jack Harrison today, when he’s on it he’s a handful. — Luke (@Lboxdonn) June 27, 2020 Jack Harrison. A goal and an assist yesterday. Player of the year for me #lufc — Lee.ds (@anyoldsport) June 28, 2020 A couple of Leeds fans talked up how good Harrison looked playing out on the right-hand side, with most of his appearances this season coming on the opposite flank (38). Harrison moved to the right wing. Bielsa nailed that! — Sammy_LUFC (@LeedsUFans) June 27, 2020 Harrison on the right makes a difference. Done it in the second the same way he played against arsenal. Wouldn’t mind seeing him play more on that side. #lufc — Andy Longstaff (@ClipperBoyz) June 27, 2020 A few fans made it very clear they wanted to see Harrison signed permanently, with reports back in January suggesting that parent club Manchester City are willing to let him go for around £8m. Sign this man permanently @andrearadri — Kagey (@Kagey_) June 27, 2020 A big big must for this summer is to sign Harrison.. #LUFC #MOT — Patric Björklund (@patricbjorklund) June 27, 2020 Jack Harrison absolutely outstanding second half and I sincerely hope we keep him for the premiership. #ALAW #Leeds #MOT pic.twitter.com/hv6Pbaawq9 — Stuart (@ssc1874) June 27, 2020 If Leeds get one key piece of transfer business done this summer, then surely securing Harrison on a permanent deal is right up there at the top of the list. CAN YOU NAME EVERY ONE OF THE LEEDS’ TOP GOALSCORERS FROM THE PAST 15 SEASONS? IT’S A TRICKY ONE… WORLD CLASS SCORE: 95% | EXPERT SCORE: 80% | VETERAN SCORE: 65% | INTERMEDIATE SCORE: 45% | AMATEUR SCORE: 30% | TRY AGAIN: 5% The 5 foot 9 ace has been an ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season, playing in every single Championship game, and has scored six times and provided eight assists across all competitions. He’s had the kind of impressive campaign that should have Victor Orta and co with a fairly simple decision to make about whether to bring him back for next season. #JackHarrison #PremierLeague #MarceloBielsa
'Looks like a different player': Leeds star delivers verdict on 23-year-old winger - originally posted on Sportslens.com Patrick Bamford has picked four players for Leeds Player of the year. The Leeds United striker feels that Stuart Dallas, Ben White, Kalvin Phillips, and Jack Harrison should be in contention for the award. The Whites sit top of the Championship table after 37 games and are one of the favourites to secure promotion to the Premier League. Under Marcelo Bielsa, 2019-20 has been a memorable campaign for them and he has drawn high-level performances from every single player. However, Bamford is probably right with his judgement. All these players have been consistent throughout the campaign and have never let their form dip. Bamford has showered praise on Harrison saying he has looked like a different player this season. “Alongside them, I would say Jack Harrison. Look at him last year to this year, you could see he had the quality with the odd bits and bobs and had the potential. This year, he looks like a different player for me,” said Bamford. “He’s confident, he’s having more of an end result, more reliable for what will come. It will either be a good cross or a shot. Last year that wasn’t the case. I think he’s up there as well.” The 23-year-old winger joined Leeds last season on loan from Manchester City and showed his class in bits and parts. He joined the Elland Road club on loan again from City during the summer and has shown remarkable consistency throughout the campaign. Harrison has recently claimed that he wants to play in the Premier League with Leeds. However, if that doesn’t happen, he would try to achieve that dream with Manchester City. When Harrison joined Leeds from City there was a clause inserted in his contract where the Whites could sign him permanently for £8 million. Surely, Leeds will take that option if they secure promotion to the Premier League at the end of the campaign. Leeds United fans have been suggesting names for their Player of the Season, which has led to The Athletic’s Phil Hay making a bold claim about one member of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad… WHAT’S HE SAID? The Whites are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship standings, holding a seven-point advantage to those in the playoffs with just nine games remaining in the season. HILARIOUSLY OBSCURE PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS – CAN YOU NAME THEM ALL? WORLD CLASS SCORE: 95% | EXPERT SCORE: 80% | VETERAN SCORE: 65% | INTERMEDIATE SCORE: 45% | AMATEUR SCORE: 30% | TRY AGAIN: 5% Barring a null-and-void season, the west Yorkshire outfit are the only ones standing in the way of a promotion at this stage. Their season so far has been rather phenomenal as they appear set to end a 16-year wait for top-flight football, so understandably there have been plenty of candidates for the award. One supporter offered Kalvin Phillips’ name in a recent Q&A, and Hay replied with the following… TWO TOP TALENTS It’s certainly a bold claim to suggest that City loan star Jack Harrison has been somewhat better than Phillips, but he could be onto something – at least in terms of their progression. The defensive midfielder has been on a meteoric rise ever since Bielsa converted him into that role to the point where England boss Gareth Southgate has scouted him for his Three Lions squad. But Harrison has improved his figures drastically on last season. So far, he has managed one more goal and a massive four more assists whilst also averaging over double the number of key passes per game from just one in 2017/18 to 2.1 this term, via WhoScored. In addition, the 22-year-old has increased his attempts at goal (1.7 shots) as well as doubling the number of dribbles per game (1.8). Either way, both Harrison and Phillips have played instrumental roles for Bielsa and it would be mighty hard to split these two top talents – and that’s excluding the likes of Ben White, Stuart Dallas and Mateusz Klich, too. Leeds United have been given an update into the future plans of their loan ace Jack Harrison after he gave an interview to the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier this week, and it may not spell good news… WHAT’S HE SAID? The 23-year-old has been at Elland Road on a temporary basis for two seasons and hasn’t yet been able to break into his parent club’s first-team, given it is Manchester City, that’s hardly a surprise to anyone. Marcelo Bielsa is able to land the tricky winger for £8m this summer according to reports, but his chances of doing so may have just got harder after Harrison revealed his desire to play for Pep Guardiola. He said: “For the last two years working with Marcelo, I’ve learnt a lot and develop different parts of my game and improved. “Working with him has already prepared me for almost anything going forward. “It’s an exciting opportunity if I was to go back to Man City and work again with Pep Guardiola.” “What I’ve learnt with Marcelo I can take anywhere and if it is back there, it’s another great opportunity for me. “I’ve learnt a lot over the last two years and I can take it wherever it may take me.” Jack Harrison to Yorkshire Evening Post. SUMMER BLOW The 5 foot 9 wide man, who is valued at just £5.85m by Transfermarkt, has been an integral part of the Whites’ fortunes this term with Leeds sitting top of the Championship standings with only nine games remaining. He’s found the net five times and has also provided seven assists across 37 appearances, via WhoScored, whilst also averaging 2.1 key passes, 1.9 dribbles and 1.1 tackles per game. THE SINGLE TOUGHEST FOOTBALL LOGO QUIZ OF ALL TIME… WORLD CLASS SCORE: 95% | EXPERT SCORE: 80% | VETERAN SCORE: 65% | INTERMEDIATE SCORE: 45% | AMATEUR SCORE: 30% | TRY AGAIN: 5% Harrison’s presence along the left-flank has been unrivalled this season as he has started every single league match under Bielsa, which also only goes to show the sort of faith the Argentine has in him. Therefore, if his comments come true in the summer, then Leeds will be left with a massive gap to fill and one they could probably do without. Only time will tell if the winger’s future is at Elland Road or back under the masterful, Pep Guardiola. Noel Whelan has given his verdict on Leeds United’s potential summer move for Jack Harrison, as reported by Football Insider. WHAT DID HE SAY? The websitepreviously reported that Marcelo Bielsa will be pushing for Leeds to sign the Manchester City loanee permanently if they are promoted this season. With the club currently sitting top of the Championship table, seven points above third-placed Fulham, they are in a very good position to finally reach the promised land of the Premier League. Whelan has shown that he is fully behind the potential move, as he said: “Well, it all comes down to numbers. I’m sure he’s enjoying football, he stands out. “How big Leeds United is, how Leeds have grown and how the force is getting even better, it’s certainly a club he’ll want to go and play in the Premier League for. “He’ll be excited to try and get promotion, try and get to the Premier League and I’m sure Leeds United will be looking to get that type of player, when someone’s played week in, week out for you and played well. “These are really great problems for Leeds United, who signs, who what, who’s the next target, but only if we get to the Premier League.” WATCH LEEDS UNITED VIDEOS WITH STREAMFOOTBALL.TV BELOW IMPORTANT PLAYER Harrison has shown that he can be a very important player for Bielsa’s side through his performances this term, as well as his consistency. The 23-year-old has started 37 Championship games this season, scoring a respectable five goals and adding a further seven assists. He also carries a threat in his general play outside of his goal contributions, averaging 2.1 key passes, 1.9 dribbles and 1 cross per game. CAN YOU GET FULL MARKS ON THE ULTIMATE LEEDS QUIZ? TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE BELOW… There has also been a defensive work rate shown by the winger, who makes 1.1 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 0.5 clearances on average. With all of the above considered, there is certainly a chance that signing Harrison permanently could help Leeds adapt to life in the Premier League, should they make it there. Meanwhile, FFC writers have given their verdict on Leeds’ potential summer transfer move. #LeedsUnited #JackHarrison #ManchesterCity
