Fane filled his backpack with music books and beginner material. He'd hung posters recently, advertising that he would start giving piano and guitar lessons on his days off from Red Rocks. The extra income wouldn't hurt. He wasn't used to having to make some kind of payment on a house and being here, the rent was making his head spin.
He took an Uber to the neighbourhood, taking a moment to take in that it was nice. But some of the houses seemed to be undergoing renovations, including the one his driver stopped at. Hopefully, the workers wouldn't distract his student, who, according to her parents, was nine.
He carefully avoided the building materials on his way in. And the lesson went pretty well. The little girl, Mia, was eager to learn to play the piano, and enthusiasm was always Fane's favourite. After the lesson, he accepted Mia's mother's check plus tip and had a schedule to come by once a week for a lesson. It was nice, having a little extra cash from a steady gig.
Fane left the house, and all his careful footwork on his way in was for nought as he immediately tripped on a tool bag near the porch stairs and tumbled down them. "Fuck," he muttered, staring up the sky a moment. He heard the sounds of someone coming towards him quickly. "I'm okay! Really. This is par for the–" Fane cut off. His eyes were caught looking at the man that came over. He looked… almost exactly like what looking in the mirror was like. "Uh… are you wearing a mirror or something, pal? Cause I ain’t gonna lie, that's weird. Or is this a concussion? I never can tell."
