I have looked at 3 illustrators to take facial features from some of their pieces of work for my heads of my collection and also for some inspiration on how I will draw the designs. The first illustrator I researched into was Jason Brooks. I have recreated 3 illustrations created by him using different media for some experimentation.
For the first illustration I used the double sided felt tips and free handing a doubled up piece. I used about 9 different colours including 5 for the shading on the dress the woman was wearing. Overall I think this is a successful piece of work that I have done as it mimics Brooks’ work rather well. The only thing I would change is not using shades of grey on the dressing use the maroon, browny shades like Jason’s illustration.
For the second illustration I used coloured pencils for a half and half piece. I also used the skin tone pencils to draw the skin tone and blended with a pink pencil for her pink undertones and tanned skin. Overall I am 50/50 with this piece of work as I think I captured the proportions of the woman’s face correctly, facial shape, eye shape etc but I am not pleased with the way the skin tone is blended in my work so I wish I blended the pencils together more to create smooth, even skin. Furthermore, I think her hair could have used some black pencil for the shadows like the illustration is to add some more tone to my drawing.
For my third illustration I used card and foam for a collaged piece. I placed down a bigger image of the illustration in my sketch book and traced out the shapes of colours on to red, yellow and black card but because I didn't own any blue card I used blue foam and stuck these shapes down over the image to create my collage. Overall, I think this is a successful piece of work that I have done as I used the correct colours and shapes to recreate Brooks’ illustration well. What I would change is using foam for the whole collage as I ended up liking that better than the card. This is because I felt like it added more thickness and texture to the collage instead of the thin card which is what I wanted.

Look how young Jason is here!! . . #regrann @trphilly That time I got to meet Aquaman, @prideofgypsies but he was a skinny little twink on Baywatch. Can not wait to see this movie. Jason is perfect for Aquaman, and he’s going to rock this out.
