Bear was placed in the exact same position by One Wish Willow as Peter was by Jean Grey. Had Jean been a bit more evil (Though what she did was pretty bad already and totally SA, of course), Peter would have ended up 🍇ing MJ by proxy through no fault of his own (Meaning that he would have been SAed himself through deception). And yet the fandom correctly realizes that Peter, like MJ, was innocent and a victim in all of this and the real guilty party was Jean and yet they can’t do the same with Bear from Obsession. And no, I am not talking about the second half of the movie. I agree that Peter would have acted a lot differently to that entire messed up and traumatic situation upon finding out about it, and that he wouldn’t have wasted time with self pity (Because he is a different character, a heroic character while Bear is a selfish and cowardly character), but there are people who blame Bear from the get go for making that wish and don’t take what he goes though as a result of that wish into account when judging his actions. Ya think Peter wasn’t wishing or praying everyday MJ would remember him and love him back? You think he never threw a coin at a fountain wishing exactly that? You think he would be above being a VICTIM of rape by deception? The latest movie proves he wouldn’t be above that, and the only reason he wasn’t a victim of that was that Jean Grey, the person with actual agency in that messed up situation with MJ, was not half as evil as the One Wish Willow corporation, the entity with the most real agency in Obsession that everyone is always defending just because one of its victims (Bear) wasn’t a heroic perfect victim that reacts super selflessly and without flaws or fear or confusion or messy emotions to the fact that the relationship he was tricked into believing was real was all fake and that the person he was having sex with was not actually the person he thought he was having sex with and had initially consented to have sex with but actually a magical creation of an evil corporation.
