JGP Ostrava – some thoughts

I was there! And it was a great event, so professionally done, very affordable (I wish every competition cost just 100 CZK a day), beautiful arena (yeah, seating could be closer to the ice but I still saw a lot), the rink DJ was fun and it was just an amazing start of the live ice skating season for me!

Some highlights: – Japanese and Korean skaters in general. Their speed and glide were just something else – I didn't expect to love Mrázkovi so much! They destroyed the competition (which included baby Brits and I loved them as well). Very powerful duo with unique lifts, amazing choreography and attention to detail. They seem senior ready and she is only 16?! Go my dear Czechs, let me feel national pride for a change! – Junior ice dance is the best discipline, very wild and unhinged and I love that. – junior men with their amazing quads and spins level 2 – Nikolaj Memola was once again my favourite! Minkyu being fourth broke my heart a little bit but he has time for podiums! So tiny and amazing PCSs! – Pairs winners was amazing but I'm confused about their future. She has another 3 years before turning senios but he is turning seniors now. So they have to break up or just wait??? It's the same for the Japanese team (and that is especially sad because THEIR SIDE BY SIDE JUMPS??? just wow) – Mao Shimada!!! That's it. – Minsol is the tiniest kid and she had cat ears for her Cats FS. Ikura was perfect (especially her spins). Oh dear Mia, she has quads but can't master "easier" jumps. But she's slowly getting better in PCS category which makes me happy because I see something special in her. – so many skaters from small feds which did AMAZINGLY well, I'm so proud of them, can't wait to see them shine in years to come
