2009 to 2019 ✨Art of the Decade (twitter | instagram)

Happy New Year 2020 🥳 My life flashing before my eyes 😂

Not a lot of you know me from back then, but I used to be very active as an artist on Tumblr and Twitter. Through middle school and high school and then college, I learned that the internet is a double-edged sword: on one hand, there is so much toxicity and bitterness, but on the other hand, it is an amazing tool to make connections and learn from others. My previous alias was “sevenfivetwo” but I rebranded myself as “jhoca” in 2017, when the art reposts were getting out of hand and really hurt me. People tried selling my art, or drew over my art and called it their own. Out of bitterness, I renamed myself because I thought “they can’t steal my art if they can’t find me” but also as a way to tie it back to my own name. I don’t know. I’ve grown so much this decade.

At the beginning of the decade, I was a child. And now, at the end of the decade, I am an adult, trying to approach things with more maturity, understanding that I don’t know everything, that I’m still learning and growing, and that I’ll never stop learning and growing. Thank you for all of your love and support this decade. I’m sure most of you don’t know my dark past or my alter egos, but my artistic career has had its ups and downs. And I’m so grateful and excited to know that I can keep creating and doing what I love. Thank you so, so much 😊 Happy New Year 2020 🥳✨
