Vidyadhara who approach middle-age experience something akin to “baby fever.” Some theorize it is a thing in all species so it would make sense that Vidyadhara experience it as well. Others theorize that it originated from the time of Long and the Permanence when they were able to reproduce.

Nowadays, those who experience it usually consider becoming teachers or volunteering at daycares. Some in Vidyadhara-Xianzhou Native/Foxian relationships will adopt an orphan as their own.

For Dan Heng, he seemed to have gone with the last option but instead of an orphan, has bonded to Yanqing. While he, Jing Yuan, and Blade were together, Yanqing has sort of become an unspoken part of the relationship. The boundaries undefined as they navigated their way around.

Well, it was undefined until Dan Heng returned to the Luofu half-a-head taller than Jing Yuan and a form gifted by Permanence. With heightened draconic tendencies and time away from his mates, he was not as prepared to fight against his instincts.

Something in his brain made the connection of Yanqing lives where I live and is a child therefore Yanqing is his child.

He covers Yanqing in cloudhymm instinctively. He is covered in so much that other Vidyadhara mistake Yanqing for Dan Heng from time to time. The High Elder of the Yaoqing once thought Dan Heng had arrived at the Yaoqing and was quite miffed about not being paid a visit before realizing it was Yanqing.

He also feels the need to provide for Yanqing constantly. Food is brought to him every hour he is at home as if the teenager isn’t eating everything the cooks make.

Lan forbid Yanqing gets injured on the battlefield. Yanqing wakes up to glowing teal eyes in the middle of the night asking why he’s hurt and who hurt him.

Jing Yuan: My dear, please let Yanqing go. He has to go train.

Dan Heng, who has his tail wrapped around Yanqing’s ankle: No. They’ll hurt him.

Blade: Then what? He doesn’t train and Jing Yuan sends him out to the battlefield and he gets injured or dies

Yanqing: 😑

Jing Yuan: You are not helping

Dan Heng, whose eyes are now glowing and is radiating qi: He is not going to the battlefield! No! Absolutely not!

Amidst the tribalism between most of the top Dan Heng ships in the “Honkai” fandom, I prefer multishipping him with Blade, Jing Yuan, and both Trailblazers (Stelle & Caelus). They’re my HoYo OTPs, so I like to headcanon Danny having a “1 girlfriend, 3 boyfriends” ordeal. He’s probably swinging both/all ways with 2 hot Xianzhou grandpas and 2 Stellaron vessels (will continue as long as he lives). The Astral Express’s resident dragon was a Vidyadhara High Elder after all. 🤭🐉
