"tragically she’s just been in the one movie musical to my knowledge, but WHAT a musical and she's wonderful in it: 1982's starstruck, directed by gillian armstrong who is an important figure in australian new wave cinema (and huge respect to her for deciding to make a fun, brash musical as the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut that put her on the map as a Serious Director). it's patterned after the basic beats of a classic "if we’re gonna save the family farm we gotta put on the best show this town has ever seen!" type of musical (in this case it's the family diner) but through a contemporary lens and stuffed with all this wonderful texture and post-punk iconoclasm and naturalistic fleshed-out characterization and of course all the most 80s music and fashion possible. it's just kind of bustling with life and energy and it rules so much and i love it so much. and jo’s warm and energetic performance as diner waitress and aspiring musician jackie is the beating heart at the center that holds the whole thing together and makes it work and it's fantastic. i really really love this movie if you can't tell lol" - anonymous
