spoilers for law school episode 14
all the clues pointing to yebeom's betrayal were there, starting from when he and joonhwi ended up going to the same internship. he was always so bothered whenever prosecutor jin recognized joonhwi's skill, or just paid more attention to joonhwi in general.
during their round table discussion in the restaurant, yebeom was so surprised that sol b knew so much about how judges made their rulings, and it seemed evident that he was envious of the kind of connections he had. in the same scene, we get a glimpse into his background – he says that they're nouveau riche (recently acquired wealth & lacking in good taste), which means they weren't always rich, and nobody tends to take them seriously.
yebeom's desire to be seen as a serious law student, his belief that connections are important, and, as evidenced in the show multiple times, his volatility in picking a side, made him ripe for the picking in prosecutor jin's campaign to take the law school squad down.
we never took yebeom seriously because he was funny, because he was annoying – and that was our first mistake as the audience, because that's how everyone else in the show sees him too.
so we feel betrayed by his act because we never expect someone so sidelined to suddenly take matters in his own hands and try to show just exactly how important he can be.
my only problem with it is that he decided it was worth betraying his best friend bokgi for.
bokgi, who always took his shit, who always gave him the benefit of the doubt, who always educated him regardless of how stupid he was being, who was so patient with him throughout the entire run of the show.
i would have been okay if yebeom wasn't so closely attached to everyone, but now that he has hurt bokgi, this means war.
