I feel so lucky to have just started getting back into Green Day the months leading into Revolution Radio. I have mentioned a few times in this blog how I skirted around getting to know the band members themselves because I was anxious they’d turn out to be unsavory individuals. I had quite a few times been disappointed by my musical idols so it made a bit of a sense that I had this concern.
Then one day I was was browsing YouTube for Green Day songs and “Bang, Bang” popped up. Because I had been disconnected from both the fandom and the band itself it came as a complete and utter surprise. That song played a huge role in sealing the deal for me, and I immediately became excited for more Green Day material.
But there is another piece of the story. As I ventured further into the fandom on Tumblr I came across an article released the same day as my new favorite song. This article, a Rolling Stone interview with Billie Joe, was what made me fall in love with him and gave me the confidence to dive headfirst into the Idiot Nation.
I can’t say that I wouldn’t have become as big of a fan had I not come back just before RevRad, but it may have taken just a tad bit longer. For those reasons I’m extremely grateful for RevRad. That’s not even accounting for how amazing the album is and how much those songs helped keep me going through such a hard time in my life.
Thank you Green Day for coming back with this incredible release.
