This morning I said goodbye to the Jolly Swagman Hostel in Kings Cross (considered Sydney's Red Light District) and hello to Bondi Backpackers in Bondi Beach! . Bondi Backpackers is located across the street from the beach, it is absolutely beautiful here.
Last night I worked my first backpackers job helping unpack boxes for a family who moved into a gorgeous home in Chatswood, North Sydney. I needed one other girl to do the job with me, I walked outside the Jolly Swagman and Paulene, from France, who hardly spoke English, with happy to come with me! Paulene did a great job with the English she knew, I applaud her for learning as I don't know any French or any other language. Near the end of the night Leah, the mother, accidentally hit me in the head with a box. Leah felt awful, but I said no worries, its just a bump! They are a great family, they put us to work but also took care of Paulene and I with dinner, drinks, as well as covered the cost for our bus and train ride. It was a great experience and I'll do it again.
Now I am on my way to an interview at Bungalow 8 at the King Street Wharf, its a restaurant and bar. In Australia it is not required to have previous restaurant/bar experience like in the US, however you legally need an RSA card costing around $180 which consists of a one day training on the responsible service of alcohol principles. This will be great experience to bring back to the States!
Thursday, I have another job packing boxes instead of unpacking. I need to find one other girl to do the job and I just may have found one - she goes by Frenchie and she's in my room at the Bondi hostel. I have quickly been friended by Frenchie, Lue, and San Diego #1 just within checking into this hostel!
Oh, and everyone thinks I'm Canadian!
Cheers! :)
