Kdrama Review: Sisyphus the myth
Do yourself a favour and skip the show. I'll tell you why.
Plot
So the entries premise of this dystopian show is this: A nuclear war is going to break between South and North Korea in 2020.
There is this brilliant (and dickish) CEO called Han Tae Sul of the company Quantum and Time who invents something called the "uploader" which is basically a time machine.
People who live in the post-war Korea use the uploader to come back to the past to pre-war Korea and live a normal life.
One of such people is our female lead Kang Seo-Hae. But she isn't really coming back to the past to enjoy fresh fruit and air. Her mission is to mind Han Tae Sul and stop him from building the uploader because the invention of that is directly connected to the nuclear war. So that means: no uploader = no war.
Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
After 15 episodes of trying to understand time loops and quantum physics and time paradox and sitting through a 100 action scenes where multiple groups of people are trying to kill the two leads who are trying their best to change the future which is next to impossible, we expect answers in the finale. But guess what we get instead?
Disappointment and a big ?
You can argue that's because I do not understand the technicalities of physics. But I really don't think that's just it.
The writing is so messy. It is full of loop holes and illogical events. I just cannot put the blame on my lack of understanding science. I think the creators too don't understand it all that well.
It's not your usual cliffhanger ending
Firstly, kdramas don't end their finale at a cliffhanger because they typically don't have a season 2 (unless they want to torture our hearts like Scarlet Heart Ryeo).
But fine, I'm a grown woman. I'm a writer. I can handle cliffhangers. But Sisyphus The Myth doesn't quite end with one. It ends with ridiculousness. I think the creators should issue either a letter of apology or explanation.
If you've read my other kdrama reviews, you know I'm never this harsh. But I just can't believe I wasted 16 hours and 8 weeks of my life on this nonsensical shit.
I think the title was the only thing that was on-point. I mean trying to make sense of this show was definitely a sisyphian task.
If you do really love Park Shin Hye and or action packed stuff then maybe you can watch it just for that element. But don't expect the ending to make sense or be gratifying at any level.

sisyphus the myth is what happens when the writer, director and producers all go "what if we made a show all about cool fight scenes. thats it. we'll just figure out the plot later! what could possibly go wrong"
everything ladies and gentlemen. everything.
Uh does somebody wanna tell me what IN THE WHAT that ending was to sisyphus the myth because WHAT?!?!?
