I just wanna say it’s so nice knowing someone who feels very similarly about dating and attraction and all that stuff. I’ve been bouncing back and forth about being aromantic myself for like the last two years but I’d say for the last five years I’ve analyzed my feelings on dating. It began as “why am I so concerned about being behind in my life with all my friends dating when I have no interest in dating?” and me being content with that lack of interest and no existent love life.
I haven’t settled on a label as it all feels too official but I do accept that that is how I feel.
My best friend would sometimes tell me how she wishes she was like me and admired that I don’t dwell on men and romance and I’m always like “as you should 🤪 Jkjk but also I might be aromantic so…it’s not really something you can “learn” to do from my perspective. It’s just who I am and how I feel” if you want to date and have a partner, that’s okay. You don’t have to be all “zen” about being single.
I’m mostly okay with how I feel but I do get upset at times when I think about my future. Because the world is built on the prioritization of romantic relationships, I worry about getting left behind and who I’ll have at the end of the day. That’s when I cry about it 🥲. But 90% I’m chillin 😝.
Yes it's been so nice talking to other ace people about it, it really makes me feel less alone and like nothing's wrong with me. i've been pretty sure about being asexual for the past couple of years but up until now i didnt think i could be aromantic because i love romance movies and books and literally write reader insert fanfic where the reader character usually ends up in a very happy loving relationship (after years of slow burn lmao) but it honestly makes a lot of sense that i would be aromantic!
ive never been in a relationship and ive never had the desperate need to be in one like other people have when theyre single, but as long as people are comfortable with themselves when they are single and know who they are outside of a relationship, then to me i agree it's totally fine to keep trying to find a partner if it's something you want
that's also pretty much how i feel! i have a great group of friends that i love very much that love me very much, but i do really fear being alone because it's very normalized in our society to get in a relationship and start neglecting your friendships, especially female friendships. i've been on my own a lot more since i moved cities for work so ive been trying to get more comfortable doing things i want to do on my own, but it is really hard to think about getting left behind because romantic love is placed above platonic love in our society. but for now im just gonna take it one day at a time 🫶 you are very loved!!
