Joe has finally find out the truth about Skip's death and Gordon's involvement in it. He packaged up all the evidence and used his daughter's birthday party later that night to give it, as well as something for protection, to his sister.
Brandi was somewhat annoyed since her brother had made it more than obvious about his distaste for Gordon and thought this was just another silly paranoid rambling from her little brother. However, she noticeably went quiet once the word's 'Gordon's involvement in Skip's murder left Joe's mouth and accepted what he wanted to give her. She left the Newbie house that night with a troubled look on her face.
Joe can’t lie - he’s a bit shocked to hear that Brandi is giving marriage another go, especially after how her first one ended in tragedy. He’s even more shocked (and slightly worried) to hear that the man she’s engaged to is a former friend and coworker of Skip’s. Now don’t get him wrong, Joe loved Skip like they were brothers. But he made it no secret as to his disapproval of Skip’s ‘career’ and the potential impact it could have on his sister as well as a younger Dustin and unborn Beau. Skip was turning his life around at the end, but then he died. So while Joe inviting Brandi and her new fiancé over for a small get together is laced with good intentions, he won’t deny that he’s also using this as an opportunity to sus him out.
While the children play, Joe’s instincts tell him there’s more to Gordon than meets the eye. And none of it is good.
Later that night, Jane is more than a bit exasperated to see Joe on his computer trying to find anything incriminating on Gordon King. The perks of being a detective. But she knows he wouldn’t be doing this at all if he didn’t think he had a good reason to. So when he joins her in bed that night, she quietly lets him know that if he needs her to do anything or look through past records, to let her know and she’ll do anything to help. She cares for Brandi too after all.

Although with their own small tragedy striking in the middle of the night, Jane’s not too sure about how focused she can be when it comes to looking into her future brother in law.
Jane is a bit older than Joe - 6 days specifically (or 6 years if you play 1 day = 1 year). Even though they’re both very career oriented, they’re also very conscious of their age and don’t really want to be parents to young children while they’re in the their elder years - those years are meant for winding down and retiring y’know.
So they tried. And it happened quite quickly. Next thing they knew, June Newbie came into their lives.
May have made a mistake naming her June because already I’ve misread her name as Jane’s lol 💀🤷♀️
